I like Soto. IMO, he's where JMM was at under Bob Arum. Not getting enough hype for his fighting skill and ability.

He took a huge risk by fightng Guzman. Cortez really gave him the shaft which screwed up any future shots for a big fight.

Would love to see Valero vs Soto.

On the contrary, I utterlly despise the guy's irritating combination of absolute lack of pop from both hands and his showboating inside the ring. Very painful to see. Worse than watching Rocky Juarez strutting his boring game. He showboats because he knows deep in his Dominican heart, even with his skills and talent, he can not even knock down a corpse! Even if he puts a lot of energy and effort behind those power shots he unload, they only count as scoring punches, because it does not hurt them. He should have slapped his foes instead, much like Joe C always does, to save his energy towards the latter rounds.

IMO, to his credit, he rivals Juan Diaz and Pauli Maliggnani as one of the top featherfisted boxers around.

His chin is excellent though, and I would like to see it tested against a sharpshooter in JMM or against the speed and power combo of Pacquiao.

But right now, as I feel no one big name is willing to gamble on someone whose history of backing out is impeccable, he should feast on the likes of Sta. Cruz, Presscot, and Funeka and hopes promoters will be interested once again and give him another chance. If he can land a fight with Juan Diaz, that would be a good scrap.

I am a huge Soto Fan! and firmly believe that he would give pac problems. Could he beat him? Who knows and too bad that Soto will probably never get the chance to prove himself against pac. I think pacs just going for a couple more big money fights and probably calling it quits just like mayweather did. Its a shame really. I think that Soto vs Pac would be a war! And his style does remind alot of people of Morales.:good Great fighter though and he has heart too!

All I remember is when Guzman gave him a boxing lesson.

Every fighter has their kryptonite and Soto's worst enemy's are the mobile fighters like Guzman... Mover/runner.. Guzman would throw a quick flurry and run like a sprinter... Any fighter would have a problem with a runner like him.... I don't think any less of soto just because he lost a decision to guzman... A runner like guzman makes everybody look bad...

You got to reassess the meaning of a boxing lesson...

Punch, run, punch, run, is what guzman did.. That wasn't a true boxing lesson.. He took a page out of Ivan Calderun's book...

Edgar Sosa/Brian Viloria and Marquez/Pacman were real boxing lessons...

Guzman is a rich man's Gamboa though, i know that. He got that flash but he also has the defense too with a bit of substance, minus the punching power..

Arum used Soto as a stalking horse to jack up the price for Pacquiao fights for years. He's never going to fight Pacquiao, just like Valero is never going to fight Pacquiao. He was a negotiating ploy, that's it.

I like Soto and I think he's a good fighter, but people who think he could beat Pacquiao mustn't have seen the Guzman fight. There's no way Soto would be able to deal with Pacquiao's speed. It would be a slaughter, very similar to Diaz-Pacquiao.

Before the fight, it was an even fight, and I remember picking Soto to decision Guzman in a close competitive fight, with his accurate punching and steady jab, power and height, but Guzman proved to be more effective in outboxing him.

I have revised my view on him since then. Soto is a good fighter. A solid one, but nothing special about him that would make his fight with Pacquaio a close one, or to even suggest he would have Pac's number. That is just not right. Pac is just as quick as Guzman, but with more power and throws shots from all angle. It would be an exciting fight for sure, but with Pacquaio you always get it. He fights straight up and gives everything, and with Soto a willing warrior, it would definitely be an exciting spectacle, but I would bet my house that we would clearly see the difference betwen an elite fighter and an above-average one. Just like what we saw in JMM against Juan Diaz.

soto lost his chance of getting into the big leagues when he lost to guzman. that fight was a definite turning point in his boxing career.

JMM was old. After Hatton Pac will fight JMM again, and JMM will be 35. Then most likely Pac will retire, or fight a retired PBF. Bottom line is he will finish up his career having NEVER fought a good fighter at the top of his game.
