I find it interesting that you are laughing about something so insensitive yet you have "RIP Chico" under your username.:-(

"...the 25-year old Humberto Tapia was shot in the Hermanos Ulloa Gym in Tijuana after an altercation with a 36-year old male who accused Tapia of having an affair with his wife. Witnesses captured and disarmed the suspect, holding him until the authorities arrived. Tapia was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival..."

So it was a crime of passion, not a random senseless act. If the shooter literally found out about the adultery and then grabbed a gun and ran straight to the gym - I don't know how Mexican law works - the equivalent here would be 2nd degree at the most.

Sobering. The world is a ****ed up place.

For those who aren't as familiar with Tapia - yes, he died with a losing record as a pro and never got much more exposure than filler time on undercards. Even so, this was one bad man and deserving of all your respect.

Combined record of the guys he lost to:

    177-21-4 (84)

They had a cumulative 88% win percentage. That's insanely high for anyone's opposition over 30+ fights, let alone a journeyman.

The majority of the guys he lost to (nine of the sixteen) were undefeated prospects, all with more than ten pro bouts.

    He was stopped only once.

He was the first person to stretch Brandon "Bam Bam" Rios to the eighth round - and still one of only four people to have ever done so in Brandon's 28-fight career thus far.

Believe me, this guy could take punishment. In one of his last outings, he got up off the canvas twice in the first round (and by the third had his nose completely broken, smashed to bits) but battled back to win the rest of the fight on two judges' card, almost forcing a draw in the vein of Pacquiao-Marquez I.

    Descanze en paz, belicoso guerrero.

I was surprised they didnt mention him on ESPN Friday night fights. Or if they did I missed it. Im pretty sure he had fought on there before.

Good post IB. Evertime I saw this kid fight he never took one backward step. He was tough as nails and very competitive.

They mentioned Gil Clancy, but not Humberto Tapia. :verysad

The producers honestly may not have even known. I'm not sure he ever fought on FNF cards. Mostly he competed on cards that were aired on Spanish-language channels (and deep on the undercards of some low-level PPVs)

Hopefully your right. Ill give them the benefit of the doubt because Joe and Teddy are almost always very thoughtful when it comes to these things. One of the reasons even though Teddy can be annoying at times and kinda crazy, I still like the guy.

I'd be willing to bet they talk about Tapia next week on FNF.
