i went to meet celestino caballero and jeff mayweather today at their gym, but they decided to go down and spar at floyd's instead. they usually do this twice a week, but i hadnt gone yet. so we headed down there along with brandon gonzales (12-0) and chase corbin (3-0). celestino sparred first and it was pretty funny. he is hilarious when he spars because he sings and makes a lot of strange noises. but one guy he was sparring decided it was his big chance and seemed to try to make it a real fight. rather than kick his ass, pelenchin decided to make the guy look like a clown for the rest of the session. floyd seemed quite amused as he was laughing the whole time and repeating a lot of his moves out of the ring. brandon was next and he and this other guy went at it. brandon is a beast and i definitely see gold in his future. he has a fight on sept. 11th the gym was pretty busy. roger was there and i get to talk to him for a few moments. he had no idea who caballero was. he is entertaining to listen to. as you know, he has no filter. i didnt actually speak to floyd, but he was friendly towards everyone. at one point i sat down next to jeff as he was talking to floyd in the lobby. i wasnt even paying attention to what they were saying as i started to write in my notebook for an article in celestinocaballero.com. apparently their conversation was juicy because i noticed floyd look at me as i was making notes. i realized he probably thought i was writing down what he was saying. i apologized and said i wasnt writing what he was saying. he politely asked me to excuse them. i felt a little embarassed knowing that he thought i was trying to sneak info. anyway, it was a great day. here are a few pics Pelenchin and floyd This content is protected Pelenchin sparring. you can see floyd watching on the apron This content is protected brandon gonzales sparring with roger looking on This content is protected
you shouldn't be jotting stuff down at someone's gym.. and of course you were listening to what they had t6 say.
thanks for the advice. and you are right, a guy writing an article should not make notes. especially notes about what the guy sitting next to me (jeff) had just told me a few minutes before. that would be stupid. and no, i wasnt paying attention.
you should have said, I write for cellistinocabellero.com and want to know, "why did you duck Manny?"
ah, i see. a floyd hater. so anything you say in this thread will be negative. thanks for the heads up
nice pix. it was noticeable how big caballero is. floyd is about 5'8" while caballero is abut 5'10" right? it was nice seeing floyd being busy with his mayweather promotions and enjoying himself and if he feels he is into promoting and not into fighting anymore, i understand why he don't want a piece of pacquiao.
it was my first time there. i didnt ask him for an interview. so i certainly would not have felt right throwing out questions to him. he was there with a lot of little kids and family just having a good time. it hardly seemed like the time to get all serious. as i spend more time around the place, i will see what i can do about landing an interview. but i need to ease my way into everyones good graces. right now i conseider jeff a friend, but the rest of the mayweathers, this was my first contact. everyone was nice and i hope to get on good terms with them. for you guys on the outside, whether you are a fan or not, it is easy to say how i should get all personal. but as someone who is there, i need to practice diplomacy. like you said, i dont want to get thrown out. i am doing my best to get access, not lose it.
i didnt bust out the tape measure, but i am 6'2 and caballero looks every bit of 5'11 to me. he also weighs 150 right now. and it was my first time around floyd like i said, so i have not seen the negative yet. but he was really happy and friendly today. he was having a great time hanging out with the kids and watching the sparring. he is a huge fan of brandon gonzales' and he really got into the caballero sparring too.
Good **** bro! You are in a great position for your career. Keep doing your thang and don't let any ESB cats get under your skin. The are obvious jealous of your access to the best fighter in the world. Much respect from me bro!!!:good
I understand you're just running a boxing website. Not a media outlet. Well, we all know media soundbites are controlled by just that..the media. So even if you DID ask Money why he hasn't said **** and you decided to post it on ESB, or your website..it wouldn't have mattered. I'm sure Floyd is getting that question asked about a hundred times a day...give or take how many body guards surround him.
