There have been a number of posters accusing Hurd of weight bullying. Canelo has been accused of this many times. The worst offense I can recall off the top of my head is Gatti-Gamache. Now that was weight bullying and Gamache could have been very seriously hurt. I'd be interested in hearing who you think of when you think of weight bullying and why. I personally don't think Hurd is as much of a weight bully compared to Canelo or Gatti. Thoughts? This content is protected
Weight bullying has been going on for decades in boxing. Emmanuel Steward was badly draining his fighters in steam rooms 25+ years ago, so they could come in with a huge size advantage. The men who are talented and possess good size are usually the ones who make it to the very top, even if they're only shooting star type talents like Donald Curry, before his severe weight cutting eventually caught up to and completely destroyed his career.
I dont really believe in this weight bully excuse, I tend to find it is just excuse making by pissed off fans when their guy loses to another fighter and its their way of belittling a loss or performance by the winner to me its simple, you make weight you make weight. I'm more mad when a guy comes in over and makes no attempt to make the weight on a second weigh in or comes in several pounds over and they go ahead anyway and the small guy gets pummeled however its the guy who made weights decision to go ahead any way
If Hurd had of been 170 in the ring last night then yeah he should be fighting at 160 but he wasn't, he only put on 8lbs that to me is not weight bullying in the slightest. Gatti was the epitome of a weight bully, tbh the fact he could add 20+ pounds onto his frame the very next day is extreme to say the least. But no I don't believe Hurd to be a weight bully.
I agree as long as they are not using some kind of substance to artificially allow them to make their body more lean to make that weight, i.e, clenbuterol.
I have much more of a problem with the system than the fighters who are “weight bullies”. Guys who cut a lot of weight and make the weight are still following the rules, and run the risk of being drained. But Gatti-Gamache was different. It was totally corrupt bull****. Gatti didn’t even make weight.
Totally agree. I'll be honest I was shocked when I saw that thread abit ago with Crawford starting camp at I think it was 180, it never dawned on me fighters where cutting that much.
I liked Gatti but that fight really pissed me off. It was a total size mismatch. Gamache was like a lamb led to the slaughter.
