Hurd has no reason to go up to 160, absolutely none! He can make 154 just fine.

I'm really no fan of Hurd, I actually find his style pretty bad to watch. Not too much boxing finesse to be had, but he should keep fighting at 154! Yeah he's a tad bigger than the rest of the guys but that's just the way he was built. If he can make the weight, then it's fine.

He's never had real issues making 154, he has no reason to go up to 160 because he hasn't even cleaned out his division yet. Even if he did, he would still have no reason to move up. Loads of money fights left at 154

    Did GGG move up?

    Did Marvelous move up?

Was it just fact or rumour about how little weight he gained between weigh in and the fight? I heard it was 6 pounds. I was very quick to comment that id laughed when i saw the size difference when they got called together by the ref but if its true he can weigh in comfortably under and not be gaining like 20 pounds or something crazy then who am i to be questioning what division he should be fighting in. A granite chin, horrendous power, lightening fast, big at the weight, alot of the best Boxers have one or more of these natural advantages.

That six pounds was to the IBF weigh-in in the morning. He went up to at least 170 for the fight itself.

But yes, he still has no problem at the weight so no need to move up.

Actually that extreme weight cut comes with tons of health problems. He should move up. If he keeps this up he risks organ failure and a myriad of other issues.

Yeah it is weird that he doesn't, but that part doesn't actually matter. The cut itself damages you regardless of how you perform. You're still human. Even if he's fine right now repeatedly doing this is dangerous.

I actually agree with you, if he's making the weight comfortably and it's not
affecting performance (and clearly it's not), he should stay right at JMW.

I'm open for different types and styles of fighters winning in their own way. The way Hurd fights makes me think that he wouldn't fair too well at higher weights because he'd lose his size advantage but far as I'm concerned if you can make the weight, you can fight in the division you weighed in at. Everybody knows the rules going in so I don't understand the whining about it. I think he will eventually move up, he has the frame obviously to do it.

He shouldn’t move up. If I was in his camp I’d recommend the following:

    1. Take the WBC belt from Jermell.
    2. Fight Kell in Sheffield.
    3. Fight “Con” in the UK.
    4. Defend against Liam Smith in the States.

Most importantly, stay humble, keep his inner circle very small, invest his money wisely, and call it a career as an undefeated former unified champion. He could accomplish these feats by 30, live the rest of his life comfortably, and let time enhance his legacy as an unbeaten fighter.

Well Marvelous didn't have a SMW division until, the IBF recognized it in 1984. (The IBF started in 1983 and was considered a joke then). The first WBC Super-Middlewight Champion was....SUGAR RAY LEONARD, in 1987, nineteen months after he sent Hagler to retirement).

Micheal Spinks and Qawi called loud and wide for Marvin to move up...but Marvin wasn't stupid, He was 158 lbs. on the morning of his title defenses (this is when they used to weigh in).

But I agree with you. If you can make weight legally, why move up? Hurd made weight by A WHOLE !@#$%^&* POUND! And was actually lighter than Lara at the weigh in. He seems to have a freaky metabolism that allows him to put weight on quickly. Why blame him?
