He just might. He sure has the punching power and the range to do it. He impressed me with his fight against Ali.

To be honest after watching more Munguia i think a good fighter at 160 will duck under his long, looping crosses/hooks and knock him spark out. He's wreck less but he hasn't fought an opponent yet who can capitalize on it.

I'm not sure if Hurd can do it, though. I like Munguia's style. It'll be a barn burner.

I mean if they were 254 and 238 it would be more believable, at that size 16lbs isn't as noticeable.

These guys are small men, 16lbs difference is huge! They were not that far apart, Loma had a bigger size advantage against Rigo. In that fight they never had such a vast difference in weight.

Just like HBO trying to claim GGG was 170 against Jacobs and Jacobs was 180+
FFS GGG was 170 @ the morning weigh in and even an average Joe weighs more at night let alone a bloke cutting weight.

If they can make the weight why do you care?

Hurd is a great role model for hard work and dedication.
Hurd is also a respectful guy who plays by the rules.
Hurd will fight anybody and has a strong resume considering his experience

    Why can't you stand Hurd?

I think he should be fighting in a heavier weight class. It's whatever. I just think his size and strength is winning him fights mostly over his skill. He's improved since the Jo Jo Dan fight. I'll give him that.

Because they're naturally bigger than the guys they're fighting at 154. It makes them look bad more than anything. It dampens the legitimacy of combat sport.

It's an issue in MMA also. You can manufacture a fighter as a star by fighting guys naturally smaller than them. And not just negligible differences, either. You can clearly see after rehydration how much bigger they are.

There have been plenty of guys who were huge at their respective weight class even in the pre same day weigh in era. If you can make the weight consistently, you're at the proper weight.

I personally hate all the p4p, size doesn't matter, skills pay the bills nonsense.

Especially when these fanatics start crying because their heroes lost and blame it on them being out weighed by a few lbs.

If it were up to me we would have 5 weight classes

    210+
    210
    190
    170
    150

Every midget below 150 can go play another sport or man up

I lot of those guys moved up in weight. Leonard, Hearns,...etc... Some guys have just large frames and should be fighting in a different weight class.

You think Jaime Munguia should be fighting at 154 just cause he made weight? Even though his body is naturally larger than the majority of the 154 guys. You also have to take into account BMI. A 6'1'' man shouldn't be fighting really at 147lbs but of course ''they can make the weight'' so they fight there. With no rehydration clause it's fine.

It's like McGregor being auschwitzy and looking like death at 145lbs then he goes up and starts fighting guys his own size and fights become competitive and he struggles.

It happens in MMA and Boxing. That's the bull**** side of the sports.

I've picked Hurd going in to every single fight. I think people around here were perpetually missing the boat on just how hard he is to beat because of how easy he is to hit.

I think that fight is too soon for Munguia now, but mark my words....if that fight happens anywhere after 2019, Munguia will win. Hurd is a nightmare to fight, but he's going to have a shorter peak because of that style. Munguia has the attributes and the fresher odometer to win (and take some of the prime out of Hurd), but he's not seasoned enough for it yet. The timing makes all the difference here.

I've picked Hurd based on his size. I did vs Lara and i also thought Lara has slipped a bit.

I don't really care too much about the weight bullying because it's not really a big issue in boxing. I see it more in MMA.

There's like 4 or 5 fighters or so i'd consider weight bullies.

Are you that excited about this Ali win?

2019 is only next year ffs, if they fight at 154 it will be before 2020, otherwise it might never happen.

Who knows how long Jaime will stay @ 154, unless he gets the call from GGG next........

It's not just about Ali, it's understanding the career arcs of dudes like Hurd, Margo, Punisher, etc. These guys get underrated on the way up, then overrated once they hit the top because fans don't appreciate the concept of mileage and what it takes to fight that style.

Happens every time. People are late to the Hurd party now, but my gut tells me his peaks done within 2 years, while Manguia is on the way up.

Well, Carlos Monzon didn't move up, even though he was typically larger than most of the guys he fought at the time. Wilfredo Gomez was massive at 122lbs, but when he moved up he wasn't nearly as effective. Panama Al Brown was freakishly tall as a bantamweight (almost 6 ft). And so it goes. Historically, if your body allows you to fight at a certain weight and you do well there, it's generally accepted that you should stay there until that body finally grows out of the weight.

So, yeah...If Hurd and Mungia can make the weight (and the rehydration clause), then that's their decision...and it's not like they haven't broken new ground by doing so.
