The ideal weights for a guy who's 6'0'' is 160 lbs and up. Hearns was a skinny kid and naturally went up in weight. It's not healthy to cut so much weight anyway. Munguia is going down in weight to feast on smaller opponents. The last journeyman he fought was much smaller than him. I do think though many are ''no man's land'' fighters especially from light heavyweight to cruiser.
To my mind, a boxer has every right to use their natural assets, if allowed by the rules of the sport. If you argue against "weight bullies", presumably you want all of Usain Bolt's Olympic medals stripped as he has really long stride (I'm ignoring the issue of Jamaican testing protocols!). You can't help the way you're made; I'm 6'3" and my weight, every morning, is usually 57kg / 126kg. So, if I weight-cut, I reckon I could be a 6'3" bantamweight! Would you ban me from boxing in my true weight-division, insist on me fighting at cruiser as I am that tall? Onto topic, I would love to see Hurd vs Munguia. I really don't see a massive disparity in the match-up. They are both inexperienced, crude young monsters with limited skill but huge physical gifts. Perhaps the match should "marinade" but I reckon they are entertaining enough that their careers can handle an "0". Intriguing style match: Munguia, from my limited experience, seems very come-forward and aggressive, wants the early KO; Hurd is happy to absorb early aggression and gradually increase the pressure, figuring he will wear his man down . Blitzkrieg vs trench warfare.
You might not pass the health checkups anyway m8. You cut a difference of a 100 lbs through the day? 57kg is 125lbs and 126kg is like 270 ish lbs.
Hurd, I think, is still a little too refined for Mungia at this point...But if JM can refine himself and maybe attach a bit more skill to his game, this fight becomes a whole lot more interesting down the road, yeah.
There are some variances in terms of ideal height to weight ratio. Like, Qawi was 5'7" (if that) and technically fighting above his ideal weight when he won championships at LH and cruiser weight. Everyone's body is a bit different and you can't necessarily apply the same rules to everyone, imo.
Qawi is an endomorph. A shorter guy can go up in weight but he's gonna be at odds with himself eventually. A taller guy at a lower weight who's naturally bigger frame wise will have more of an advantage usually having a longer reach. It does depend on the body type also. I do think weight bullies are not really common. I'm just sayin in general. I go by body type when i judge them. Munguia is 21 and to my eye he's a bit bigger than a 154 pounder. You get some anomalies. Qawi at his size was still physically imposing and could get inside with skills to boot. Mike Tyson was an endomorph. A heavy kid growing up albeit he was shorter. I can name 5 weight bullies in boxing. Which is nothing. It's much more prevalent in mma. It's not illegal so ya. It's whatever. It happens.
eh???? I think you misunderstand me. I am 6'3" and naturally wake up at around 125lb , so with a weight cut could likely get down to bantam (118 lb). I was pointing out the ridiculousness of trying to set categories by height by mooting my being a CW.
You put kg on both parts which threw me off. I reread it and i see you meant lbs. I dunno man that doesn't sound too healthy. I wouldn't stop you, no. Some taller guys have smaller frames and have trouble gaining weight. Then you have dudes who are naturally much larger and cut quite a bit of weight.
Just the shape I am. Thankfully, my living is based on science, and my mental well-being is based on rock climbing; punch resistance is not an issue! Being very light is a handy attribute for hauling yourself up a crag on one-finger pockets.
I agree with what your saying although remember mung has been fight since he was 10, has more knock outs then Hurd has fights, they might be about the same as far as mileage goes.
I do think hurd has more skill of the 2. Mung is mad wreckless Mexican Style. Still want to see it play out though... im am sick like that.
I'd probably take Hurd right now. But honestly... in like another year or so... I'd take Munguia. Hurd is a jack of all trades, master of none. Munguia has the two fisted equalizers which can't be taught, and very good offensive skills. Hurd's lack of D likely finally bites him in the ass against Munguia.
That's a DAMN good matchup. I think Muneiga is too green at the moment but in due time he could give Hurd a WORLD of problems. Hurd is good but he gets hit way too easily, not a favorable shortcoming to have against a puncher.
