Mate...the movie is complete and utter bull****...some say it cost Washington an Oscar because it was played off as all factual but in the end wasnt. Giardello sued because it made out he didnt deserve the win...when he basically schooled Carter over the second half of the fight. And thats just the boxing side of the movie...
it was actually a really close fight imo.No way Giardello won it by five points, as he was outworked and outfought on the inside and at mid-range for long stretches. He looked old and past it(which was evident by the rocky rivero fights) and only a strong last third secured the win for him.Carter seemed tense and didn't step it up enough though. still it could have legitimately gone either way imo.Neither of the robbery or boxing lesson by giardello takes on this fight are accurate imo.
I do remember having it clear for Giardello...but I often recall the fight really favoring Giardello, as sort of a sub-conscious backlash to the movie probably...which is a bit unfair. I remember Carter giving him lots of hell early.
