An ancient Javier Castillejo was able to stop Sturm who was in his physical prime at the time of their first encounter... yet you only think Rubin "might" beat him?

I felt he won clearly won 8 rounds of the fight, but my original score when I first watched the bout was 10-5 in favour of Carter. I was surprised that I had him the winner as I have heard repeatedly over the years that Joey clearly won, yet after viewing the fight for myself it was clear to me that that was not the case.

So while I wouldn`t go as far as saying that it was an outright robbery, I will say that the wrong man got the nod that night. A lot of people seem to overlook the fact that Joey was very much on the slide by the time of the Carter fight, and was showing signs of it going back to the first Rocky Rivero fight which is a bout that almost everyone will tell you that he clearly lost.

I have both Joey G/Rocky Rivero fights and he clearly did lose the first fight but was given the decision, and in the second he may have earned a draw at best as he didn`t do enough to win that one in my eyes either yet was given the decision yet again. Anyways I am going off topic here, but the point is that while most people feel that Joey won the Carter fight, you will find plenty of others like myself who will say otherwise.

I am a big admirer of Joey`s and think he is grossly underrated today and would have had a field day with today`s sorry crop of middleweights, but I have to call em like I see em and in my humble opinion Joey clearly lost to Rubin due to being outwored, outpunched and outfought in close. He rallied late in the fight but it wasn`t enough to overcome the significant lead Rubin had built up by then... but this is just my opinion.

 

That website is about as biased against Carter as it gets, maintained by an obsessed journalist with an axe to grind. Carter was set up by racist cops, and all this guy does is post their falsified "evidence." Undoubtedly, he's as racist as the cops who framed Carter. :yep

 

Carter was a foolish man prone to doing stupid things and making bad decisions, but despite that, he got raw end of a racist criminal justice system.

 

His claim to fame was his 1 round KO of Emile Griffith.
He lost 12 fights.
KO'd once.
Some of his losses were against fighters that werent that good.
He lost to Giardello fair and square.
Not championship material by todays standards.
Kelly Pavelic would destroy him quick.

 

Joey Giardello outfoxed and outboxed Carter that night and deserved his unanimous decision, and if rematched later on with Griffith, Emile would have avenged his 1st round ko loss with a unanimous decision over 12 or 15 rounds.

 

Maybe but a writeup I saw told of several factual errors in the film. So you never know for sure.

 

Carter was a very strong puncher, he took Griffith out in 1 rd and even though Joey Archer beat him, he hit Archer with a great right hand that stunned the steelchinned Archer but Archer was a tough Middleweight. I think his power would make him a competitive top guy today and he would have a shot at a title
