Heh heh, these guys are crazy. Two crazy guys.

I guess i'd pick Jackson. No real confidence in my pick.

IMO how Jackson got as far as he did is beyond me. What a weird guy and...what a weird technique?
From what I've heard, he would leave the gym during training, go to the local garbage dump with his .22 and shoot at rats??? Not to mention his 'good uppercuts' with either hand but?...he reportedly threw them both at the same time???
Our late contributor John Garfield weighed in on him on a number of occasions. IMO he seemed to be a talented albeit strange sort of fighter. Any other info on him would be surely appreciated.

Jackson wouldn't duck if his life depended on it...which is why his license was revoked. Williams mid-rounds just like Suz said.

I got to go along with this. And like you say, no real confidence in picking him either.

Jackson beat better guys. Williams fairs no better against Patterson as Jackson did.

Yeah because Jackson’s size punching power and style resembled Williams entirely

I think Williams was a sitting duck, he was game and brave, but his defensive anticipation levels did not match the level his offence. Once he committed to a punch he could and would be nailed.

Jackson took Patterson to a close fight the first time.

Jackson-Patterson fight was not close just because the referee forgot his eye glasses. Have you seen the fight? Patterson dominates him despite breaking his hand in the 4th round, and unable to throw it with authority the rest of the fight.

Most ringsides including myself scored the fight 9 rounds to 3 for Patterson

    • Unofficial UP scorecard - 9-2-1 Patterson

Are you describing Jackson or Williams? Williams was far from a sitting duck. His nickname was “cat” because of his speed. He was fast, moved around a lot.

Jackson, however, was a sitting duck. He had a very good chin, and put up an impressive work rate. Only problem was their was no power behind his punches. He won fights by outlasting tired opponents, which won’t happen with Williams because he actually had very good stamina as shown in his high paced fights with Terrell and Machen.

Jackson had a good chin, but he was vulnerable to big punchers with size. Here he is getting exposed by Valdes, a good puncher, but not one in Williams class.

Nino packed the power, but lacked the speed of big cat Williams. Jackson would be a sitting duck for Williams left hooks early, and Jackson was dumb enough to think he could take Williams hooks and tire him out. He wouldn’t be able to take Williams best shot, and Williams would batter him early and effectively. Jackson didn’t have the punch to seriously threaten Williams if he got careless. Essentially Williams could tee off on Jackson with his power and handspeed until the referee saves Jackson from further punishment

I think you are in love with the idea of Williams being a great fighter. But it is just an idea. It never came to fruition against good fighters.

Never said he was a great fighter you don’t need to be a great fighter to beat hurricane Jackson!

I already explained in my post how Williams style would beat hurricane Jackson

It's a good thing for me this discussion isn't taking place in person, because then I'd have to admit I'm not sure who Hurricane Jackson is. Looking through Boxrec I see he beat Ezzard Charles. Aside from that, what are some good fights to watch to form an initial assessment of this guy?
