I think that you are selling some of the old timers short.

For example, I think Sharkey might have fought more guys who were currently ranked than you have listed.

I've used the year end rankings supplied by Matt D and the ring. These go back to 1892.

If you have any further info I'll happily add it in.

All it shows is that once again Ali and Louis are unmatched in this category.

They are and it isn't beyond reason that Wlad will overtake Lewis in the near future.

I have several lists like that. I also count the Light Heavyweight Champions.

Ali fought 38 different opponents 49 times in 61 bouts that were rated at one time or another in the top 10 in the World. (80.3279%)
Louis fought 43 different Opponents 54 times in 70 (or 71 or 72) bouts that were rated at one time or another in the top 10 in the World. (77.143%)
You can also count just 68 of Louis's fights and the % comes out to: 79.412%

Ali fought 37 out of 61 opponents (60.656%) while they were in the top 10. He beat 32 of them (52.459%)
Louis fought 35 out of 70 opponents (50%) while they were rated in the top 10. He beat 32 of them (45.71%)
You can also count just 68 of Louis's fights and the % comes out to: 51.47% & 47.059%

Ali fought boxers that had an average pro record of 33-5-1 when he fought them.
Louis fought boxers that had an average pro record of 38-10-2.5 when he fought them.

Louis yes, Ali has only 2 more than Holmes, who in turn has 3 more than lewis, tyson and Klit. True, they are unmatched but Louis wins this by a considerable distance. Not shitting on my man Ali, just throwing it out there

Oh, and good work Luf. That musta took you a long time

I believe a more important stat would be how many fighters did they fight when there opponent was still in the top 10.

Some fighters were past their prime when they fought them and out of the top 10.

Look on post 12 for more facts.

Did you forget how to add and subtract?

    Ali: 43-5
    Holmes: 22-5

    That's a difference of 21, not 2.
