The one with Michael Spinks and Butch Lewis on the cover is the Dec 1987 issue!

Right, the issue with Spinks and Lewis has the September 87 ratings inside. I just looked at them. I have that Olajide issue, too. I'll check it tomorrow. Gotta go to bed now.

How about we make a bet? I don't want to take your money But I just made a copy of the Jan 1995 Ring Ratings and guess who they have at #6?

Everyone is TRUE! If you doubt me put your money where your mouth is, ONLY joking, But I do have the proof. I have every boxer that was ever rated in the monthly ring magazine in every weight class going back in 1924. Just counting those who were rated as a heavyweight I count 413 different fighters!

We used monthly ratings, not just year end.

So instead of using just 1/12th of the data we used 12/12ths.

    Hope that helps.

If you look at the Ring’s annual ratings every year from say 1962 through to 1979 it’s quite remarkable how many of the top 10 Ali had fought.
    I think one year it’s everyone .

Didn't Ali face a ranked opponent before Moore? Like Miteff or Lavorante?

Vitaly, Wilder, Bowe and Foreman had far more fights and wins against ranked opp than I realised. Interesting. Thanks!

He fought Miteff on October 7, 1961, he lost his last 5 of 7 fights. He was rated up to the June issue of Ring Magazine which means after losing to Chuvalo in March he was no longer rated.

Lavorante after losing to Archie Moore was dropped from the ratings.

As for top 5 rated (including HW champions), Ali had 23 wins and Louis had 22. Does anyone else even have that number against top 10 ranked?

Ali had 8 wins over top 1 ranked (including HW champions) and Louis had 9.

    They really are the standouts.

Ribalta wasn't in the September or October Ring ratings. Don't have November.

I have no idea. I don't have the September issue. But I asked what ratings month and year they were in, if you are going by issues, the months could be the ratings could be months earlier and appear in the September issue. Maybe we just have a miscommunication.

If you can post the ratings, that would be great.

I just checked the months you said they were in and didn't see them. That's why I asked. Wasn't trying to start trouble.

    I’ve just checked The Ring’s 1973 rankings.
Ali was number 1 contender and Foreman champion.
Ali fought all the other 9 contenders at some point, plus the champion Foreman and for good measure the light heavyweight champion at the time Bob Foster.
