I see Larry Donald was rated #7 in the December 1994 Ratings, but he was gone by January 1995 and Larry Holmes was rated #7. So Donald wasn't in the ratings until March 1995. Although, the March issue had the December 94 ratings, so I see the problem we had. You're going by issues, I'm going by months.

If they were rated, fine. I was just looking for confirmation.

Yeah, people need to keep that in perspective when they talk about Ali. He fought freaking everyone.

Ah, I found that September issue. And I found Bert Cooper and Ribalta in the same ratings. Forget everything I said last night. (LOL) It was late. My apologies.

There are years in the 60’s when he’s fought 9 of the contenders at some point.

No problem! I do a lot of research on the ratings so I know what I am talking about! Some fighters are ONLY rated 1 month and are listed on the Annual Ratings, others have been listed for many months and were never listed on the monthly ratings!

If you just go by the Annual ratings you ONLY rate them for just that 1 month, if you go by the monthly ratings, you figure in all 12 months!

    Povetkin should be 9-2-1

Eddie chambers, Chris Byrd, Larry Donald, Ruslan Chagaev, Marko Huck, Hasim Rahman, Mike Perez, Carlos Takam, Dillian Whyte, Michael Hunter, Wlad K, A. Joshua

I could be wrong but I think that is accurate. I’m not sure if Price, hammer or charr were ever rated. I doubt it.

I don't think Takam was ever rated.

I could be wrong but I think he was rated 9 after his loss to Povetkin which is weird that he would get rated after a loss. Maybe someone can find out? I do know he was rated 5 by transnational boxing ratings when he did fight Povetkin which lends me to believe it was an oversight by Ring to leave him off. 5 slots is a lot between those publications.
This is interesting thread and a good starting point when investigating someone’s opposition. However the next step would be to evaluate where the opponent was in context to their career. For example, Wilder’s record is grossly misleading. Fighting the corpses of Liakovich, Arreola, Stiverne 2, etc would add needed perspective when evaluating him next to someone that was beating dangerous opponents with a pulse.
    Still fun place to start

I found this straight from Ring magazine’s website:
Heavyweight: Alexander Povetkin (29-1, 21 knockouts) justified our ranking him at No. 1 by drilling Mike Perez (21-2-1, 13 Kos) in one round. Perez will exit the rankings. Nos. 9 and 10 will move up one spot each and Carlos Takam (31-2-1, 24 KOs), who held Perez to a draw last year, will enter at No. 10. Takam previously gave Povetkin trouble and holds a win over Tony Thompson.

Takam was rated from July 2015 to Feb 2016, his highest rating was #9.

Takam was a quality fighter. The fight with Povetkin was brutal. I think he lost something after that night. Good win of Povetkin's ledger.
