Jesse Ferguson was never rated, but Marvis Frazier and Jose Ribalta were, plus he fought Weaver twice.

So Holmes fought 25 different opponents a total of 29 times, that were rated in the top 10 at one time or another.

Ali fought 38 different opponents 49 times that were rated at one time or another in the top 10 in the World.

Like I stated before, the more important stat is how many fighters they fought when there opponents were rated in the top 10, and also how many of them did they beat.

Ali fought 37 opponents while they were in the top 10. He beat 32 of them.
Louis fought 35 opponents while they were rated in the top 10. He also beat 32 of them.

Yes, that's the only important stat in my opinion.

Boone Kirkman. Not only did he feature in the top 10, but was rated that high when Foreman beat him.

A long time indeed. I had help from a lot of different people.

Doing a list showing how the guys were ranked when they fought could be better I suppose but it's much more time consuming and history doesn't always take that into account anyway.

Lufcrazy: well, done, top work :good

I might be wrong but shouldn't Evander get an extra loss? You seemed to give Lennox the extra win (which I agree on for the first fight) and give Holy a win for Valuev (I scored it a draw, probably base on being so bored ;-)) but not an extra loss for 1st Lewis fight.

As I say, great work. What did you use to find out which guys were rated in top ten at time of fight (other than painstakingly trawling through old magazines?)

    Again, quality stuff :good

Things are easier in modern times and the era of multiple belts. A huge factor is if a guy is say the IBF champ, he is unrated by the other 3 organizations. Their rules conveniently do not allow them to rate other champions. So what you are left with is the remaining 3 champions being unrated.

    yes! spot on!

I used mainly ring magazine ratings, Matt D's pre-ring ratings, anything pre 1882 that could point to someone being a legit contender and the interjections of a lot of people on here spotting mistakes!

this is a good bit of work here.

Ingos wins over rated opponents should read 9.

    ten hoff rated 1950-1951
    erskine 32-1 rated 1958-59
    franco cavicchi 43-3 rated 1955-56
    henry cooper rated from 1958-1971
heinz neuhaus 1952-56 (off and on)
    eddie machen#1
    patterson #1
    dick richardson rated 1960
brian london rated from 1958-65 (off and on)

9 rated opponents from a total of 28 fights is a prety good ratio!
