Jones gets knocked out. Jones being a heavyweight champion was a complete farce. He didn't earn a ranking at heavyweight and refused to defend his belt and quickly dropped back down. Haye from 2010 would knock him senseless in the early rounds. After all of his talk Jones was nothing but a paper tiger at heavyweight. Jones talking about what he could do to Vitali and Tyson, but strangely never did it. Jones stresses there is only "one more big fight left for me and boxing" - a heavyweight clash against either Mike Tyson or the giant Ukrainian, Vitali Klitschko. "I'm gonna take care of Tarver," Jones drawls, "and then it's Tyson or Klitschko. I want one of them monsters. Klitschko's gotta bring his [WBC heavyweight] title if he wants to fight me. But with Tyson it don't matter if there's no title. Tyson is a legend. I never dreamed I'd fight for the heavyweight championship but I went out and won it and, now, to fight Tyson on top of that? C'mon, that's the ending to beat all endings. Jones's disdain is obvious. "I ain't seen nobody who could whip me," he shrugs. Vitali might be the best of an abysmal bunch but Jones is convinced he could beat a hulking man who, at almost 18st and 6ft 7in, would dwarf him. "People would love that fight because of the size difference - little old me taking on a giant. But I can whip him. Tyson would also knock out Klitschko. I gotta say Tyson is the only one with half a chance of beating me - because he's got such good punching power." Jones claims he would even be prepared to meet Lewis should the current rumours of an ill-advised return for the old champion be fulfilled. "I told you a long time ago I would fight Lewis," Jones scolds me in a rare moment of anger. "Why not?" https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2004/may/10/boxing.comment
Jones was a far better fighter P4P and Haye will miss a lot, but his hands wee quicker than those of Ruiz so there would be more of a chance of Haye landing, so Haye mighht win by come from behind KO, Thompson knocked Haye out at crusier and Jones would have wiped the floor wit Thompson.
I've got Jones winning here on points but ..he gets caught and shaken badly on a couple occasions. Haye could crack and Jones wasn't tested as such at heavyweight, so there's pressure on him .But I think hell survive to get through to the end .And it won't be a popular decision with a good few screaming for a rematch.
Out of nowhere KO in 6 rounds for Haye. Jnr wouldn't take this fight though as great as he was. Haye was fast with way to much power to not hurt Jones at some stage
If you weigh everything up, you'd have to have fancied Haye. But what you've got to realise about this, is that Haye was a huge fan of Roy's. He looked up to him and he even tried to imitate him. Also, he's never been the strongest guy mentally. I've debated this a few times on here, and I just can't agree with the guys who think that Haye would have won early. Because I think he'd have been very tentative early, and there'd have been very little action, where they'd have just feinted each other. I can envisage a scenario where both of them would have been very wary of each other's speed. I just can't envisage Haye been agressive early. So I think that if Haye had've won, it would have been in the 2nd half of the fight.
Roy was on a huge high when he said this going into the Tarver rematch. I've read numerous accounts of where talks with Mike were at an advanced stage. They met face to face, and both of their advisors met. But of course it all disappeared after Roy suffered back to back knockout losses. I don't think Roy would have fought Vitali, but I do think he'd have fought Mike for monster money at the end of 2004, had they not both suffered embarrassing defeats.
Think this could be like a Canelo vs Khan situation with Roy looking good and winning and then finally gets caught, maybe in the 7th.
Roy boxes circles around Haye and wins a clear UD Alot of people are calling him shot/losing based on his career, after him falling back down from HW. This is a fight at HW on the way up! Roys career was very much differentiated in phases. He would have easily out pointed Haye 10/10 times either at CW or HW
Roy would win. He managed to take punches from Tarver at that time for 13 rounds until Tarver landed an absolutely perfect shot. I don't think Haye would. Tarver back then ended the careers of Chris Johnson and Lincoln Carter, and gave Harding a brutal beatdown for the ony time in his career, before or after. I think he probably had better one shot power than Haye.
Can u really blame him for not following through on fights with vitali and tyson? In the very same quote u posted, he showed his intentions to fight tarver first. We all saw how that went down and no one expected it. The Ko loss spooked him
I,d fancy Jones. Haye would knock him out if he could get him but it was hard to get at Roy even at that point. Opponents struggled with his speed of attack. He,d be in and out before you could get off properly. Didn't really matter how hard you punched. The important thing was if you could land it and most couldn't against Roy who was still very quick up at heavyweight. The real problems came once he left heavyweight to go back down.
