By Butch Gottlieb of BoxingInLasVegas.com At a press conference held today at the Westin Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, promoter Don House of the XBC (Xtreme Boxing Challenge) introduced 4 of the heavyweight fighters that will be taking part in the inaugural show on August 29 at the Wells Fargo Center in Des Moines, Iowa and televised on Fox Sports Net. The concept is that instead of negotiations for fighters pay, they get paid for their performance. The fighters fight 5 three minute rounds in a single elimination. The first round of eliminations there is $50,000.00 total available to win at $10,000.00 per round. The fighter who wins each round gets $7,000.00 and the loser of the round gets $3000.00. Win the fight and advance to the second round of eliminations. If a fighter wins all 5 rounds he walks away with $35,000.00 and advances. The second round of eliminations there will be $100,000.00 total available to win at $20,000.00 per round. The fighter who wins each round gets $15,000.00 and the loser of the round gets $5000.00. Win the fight and advance to the third round of eliminations. The third and final round of eliminations there will be $600,000.00 total available to win at $120,000.00 per round. The fighter who wins each round gets $100,000.00 and the loser of the round gets $20,000.00. If a fighter wins all 5 rounds in each elimination bout he walks away with $610,000.00 There is also a bonus for any fighter that wins all 3 of his bouts by knockout of $500,000.00 The first card will feature the following heavyweights. Fres Oquendo 28-4 17KOs from Puerto Rico Duncan Dokiwari 25-3 22KOs from Nigeria Cisse Saliff 23-10-2 21KOs from Mali Javier Mora 21-4-1 17KOs from Mexico Andrey Fedosov 17-1 13KOs from Russia Chris Koval 24-4 18KOs from the USA Devin Vargas 16-0 7KOs from the USA Josue Blocus 15-2 13KOs from France Your thoughts on this? Sounds like an excelent idea, specially for the HW division. There should be one of this every year or semester. I wish they would estructure it better in the future and put some bigger money in the first round, to atract bigger names and nice prospects. Koval, Mora and Salif are not names people are keen on paying to watch.
We had a similar thing in the UK called 'Prizefighter' but the quality of fighter was very poor. This seems like a much better concept with much more money involved. Plus, the quality of fighters is way better.
they did something like this in the Uk which was a success and they are going to be doing it again but they are also doing lower weights. Although with this one being in America the money is a lot higher (only the winner won anything which i think was $50,000!) and the opponents seem to be of a higher caliber
Just read an article in the main page mentioning that the show offers up to $ 2 million in prizes. IMO, a good way to atract better fighters would be to stack more money at the first round eliminations fights, something like: first round - $100,000.00 total available to win at $20,000.00 per round. The rd winner gets $15,000.00 and the rd loser gets $5,000.00. second round - $175,000.00 total available to win at $35,000.00 per round. The rd winner gets $25,000.00 and the rd loser gets $10,000.00. third and final round of eliminations - $500,000.00 total available to win at $100,000.00 per round. The rd winner gets $80,000.00 and the rd loser gets $20,000.00. bonus for KO win - one extra winning rd added to the purse, and if any fighter that wins all 3 of his bouts by knockout he doubles his total bonus ($260,000.00). That way if a fighter wins all 3 of his fights by KO without losing any rd he would get a $860,000.00 purse, which is enough to lure a lot of good fighters into the show.
Don House has put together a great bit of promotion here. Each fighter will have an incentive to fight hard in every fight, just to obtain the greatest prize they can muster.. even if u dont win, you can still earn a massive slice.. Duncan and Fres may be finalists here.. Fres was actually the first guy who ever beat Duncan as a pro, its a great chance at getting a revenge for big Dokiwari..
