HW tourney round 1 fight 1: Sonny Liston vs Francesco Damiani

lol I thought this was a poor hypothetical and almost typed toss up....

But after reading I like this idea and hope it catches on and continues to completion. Might I suggest adding a poll to this thread?

Anyway I like Liston to stop him in 4-6 rounds or so. With the first 2 being fairly competitive before Liston takes over and starts landing heavy blows that take their toll. Damiani goes down and beats the count....but after being unable to retaliate to Listons punches the ref waves it off in 6

 

I can already tell you that Ali will be the consensus (not mine) to win this tourney, but I like the idea nonetheless

 

Small note, not a big deal, you have Damiani's record as 0 losses and 2 draws, when you mean it 2 losses and 0 draws.

It's interesting that Damiani's first loss came in a fight he was way ahead on the scorecards, and then had his nose broken by Mercer and elected to be counted out. A broken nose is also the reason he lost to Damiani, maybe his nose never really recovered from being broken the first time.

Regardless, I think it's fair to believe that Liston could get Damiani to quit (for lack of a better word, I can't imagine what it would be like getting his with a broken nose repeatedly) in the same manner.
