Lets compare accomplishments: Louis-Duran - Louis ruled his division for a similar period of time to Duran, made more defenses. Louis beat good men who outweighed him by 70lbs, Duran beat men 30lbs above his best weight, but his wins at 154 and 160 aren't that impressive not more impressive than Louis destroying bigger men Marciano-Hagler - Hagler made his name from beating great fighters from 2 divisions and 13lbs below him. Marciano made his name from beating great fighters from 1-2 divisions below him (and at only being 5-10lbs heavier than a LHW) Ali-Greb - both fought many ATGs. BUT Ali beat 3 top 10 of all time great HWs and P4P these were probably more dangerous and better than Grebs best wins. Wills-Langford - both had an amazing number of fights, Wills was clearly more dominant at HW than Langford but was bigger. Wills record is also comparable to Greb if looking at frequency of beating ranked contenders These are the best cases in terms of accomplisment. In terms of P4P ability Tyson, Dempsey, Lennox Lewis, Holyfield all make great cases to be right up there.
I agree with the guts of this post. I'd like to hear from people who never rate heavyweights that highly, and a bit about why.
Interesting. Does this mean that you can rate Hollyfield above Louis p4p, even though Louis was more succesful and lighter?
I guess it's your list and your entitled to do what you want with it...crazy though. Not as crazy as Janitor's. Ask him. His p4p theory is absolutley insane. The first (and last) time I got into it with him we talked about giants and elephant sized ants.
p4p is just a way to compare fighters of different sizes. Measure skills. Quality regardless of weight. The arms and legs some guys put upon them makes me dizzy. If there was a thread about Hollyfied-Louis, and who was higher p4p, you just wouldn't post in it?
As long as Ross gets credit for the holding 3 divsion titles at the same time, and rank number 1, I dont care if a heavyweight gets in the top ten. Though non make my top ten though. After the amazing Barney Ross comes the equaly amazing Armstrong, who beat up a shot Ross. Only he and Ross have held 3 weight titles at the same time. After Armstrong is Fitz. follow by Greb, Than perhaps Walker for there heavyweight run as middleweights. Sam Langford of couse follows Greb and Walker. Ezzard Charles for his middleweight, lightheavyweight and heavyweight runs. Toney Canzi for his muiltpy title runs. There should ALL get first picks over heavyweights in my view.
Well, if you think about it heavyweights who fight guys a lot bigger than themselves like Dempsey, Louis and Tyson is about the same as non-heavyweights fighting guys in a higher weight class, so in that case heavyweights should get equal consideration for p4p lists.:good
