Yeah, what a failure! What a hype-job! Imagine losing a fight where youre the favourite? If anything Diaz exceeded his potential. He was small for the weight and looked pudgy with short arms and no power. Yet he beat a whos who of the division at the time, stopping some very good fighters before he came unstuck against Campbell. First, and this has been lost since then, Diaz was winning against Campbell until he got cut. Then he just fell to pieces. Second, that happened to be Campbell, who was a very good fighter, giving the best performance of his career. Third, Diaz came right back and clearly beat a prime-Katsidis who had just run Casamayor to the wire. Fourth, he went tooth and nail with JMM for nine rounds before succumbing to the first and only stoppage of his career. Fifth, he did all of this, unified the division and finished law school before he was 25! Yeah, he really didnt live up to his potential
Katsidis is nothing special Diaz was predicted for ATG on here LOL expected to destroy Pacman and Hatton
He WAS? When? What a load of bollocks. Someone who unifies three of four belts in the division is NOT a hype-job. He has a better record than Hatton does at their comparative weights. Is Hatton a hype job? Who ever said he was a future ATG? No one I remember, it was just expected hed clear out Casamayor and David Diaz. As it turned out Campbell did him over. It happens and it certainly doesnt diminish what went before. He achieved more than nearly 95% of fighters do and less than nearly all titlists in the modern era. Your timeline makes no sense anyway. Juan couldnt have been in the running for Pac, because he lost his belts the week BEFORE Manny beat Marquez in their rematch. I dont see how a Hatton fight could have come up. Diaz seemed happy at 135, Hatton was fighting Castillo and Mayweather, then came back at 140 after Diaz had lost to Campbell. I dont remember it ever being a discussion. Sounds like youre just a bit clueless about Juan Diaz and are trying to defend a fairly stupid accusation.
http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22523 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Gv4OQpF6iQ[/ame] yes Juan Diaz winning 3 of the 4 belts at the time looked impressive but he failed to live up to expectations after that. FFS he lost to Malignaggi and even hurt by him
I think it's a bit unfair to call Diaz a hype job, personally. He achieved a lot at a young age. He was unlucky against Campbell and didn't have a great night but he almost blew Marquez out of the ring in their first fight. He was battering Marquez and it took all of Marquez's courage and skill to get the upper hand and finish him off. Diaz was a fantastic pressure fighter and he had plenty of heart. But I think the KO loss to Marquez took the edge off him a little bit. Malignaggi had his number in both fights. Marquez had his number but struggled badly in the last few rounds in the rematch. Diaz showed a lot of heart again and fought to the very end. Good little fighter Diaz, a bit one dimensional maybe, but good value for money.
My point was it couldn't have happened. Diaz had Campbell as a mandatory and lost before pac even went to lightweight. Didn't that call out happen after the katsidis fight? I can't watch the video where I am. *ok just saw the video. So Max Kellerman asked if he'd like the fight and he said yes. Hardly a call out! Finding a bunch of posters on the general forum hardly makes your point.
