:goodGreat list but I think Gamboa needs a little more time before he'll be considered a Real Deal though he has the ability.
I'm not 'on your nuts'. Stating that something is your opinion doesn't disqualify your opinion from being idiocy.
Took on all challangers??? I don't think so! ducked Witter without a doubt! Yes he lost to the 2 best but who did he actually beat? Malignaggi? old Kostya, old Castillo and Juan Urango? To put it in perspective I would say Khan, who has beaten Paulie too, needs a few more decent wins and he equals Hatton's achievements. Hatton was overhyped. He was made out to be something he is not. Good fighter, did alright on the world stage, but should have been nowhere near p4p top 10.
Won 5 World Titles at 2 different weights. Won 2005 The Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year. Beaten ONLY by 2 of THE BEST fighters of the last 20 years. Retired with a 45-2 records. Gave us exciting fights. Had a very good. Left Hook to the body. Made millions of fans & dollah dollah bills. Stayed humble and is a genuine lad while managing to live on Curries & Guinness. Clearly a Hype JobatschI wouldnt consider myself a fan of Ricky but CMON! Bit of a legend if you ask me and definatley the Real Deal!:bbb
What? :huh I'll wait to see if Khan can come out on top at 140lbs before he even comes close to Hatton's achievements. And why are people all of a sudden questioning his win over Urango? (maybe not questioning it, but brushing it off as just Urango)...especially when Alexander has been branded by many as the one to beat at 140lbs because he beat...guess who...Urango.
Alexander has 2 notable wins, Witter and Urango and suddenly he is hailed the second coming at 140. So let's wait and see on Alexander. But I stand by what I said about Hatton, his wins are not that impressive and can be equalled by the likes of Khan within 3 or 4 more fights. Forget about titles for a minute, cos people knock them when it suits them and use them as a measuring stick for another. If we just look at his best wins, it reads Urango, Old Kostya Old Castillo, and Urango. Khan equals that if he beats a PRIME Bradley, Alexnader, beaten Kotelnik (legit world champ who beat Maidana) and of Khan himself beats Maidana. He has his win over Malignaggi like Hatton does. Come on for all his talk and all his hype, Ricky did not achieve all that much. Take his amazing fan base away, strip away the titles, and look purely at who he's beaten. don't forget he dodged Witter as well, which I think Witter would have made Ricky look silly.
You have said Khan equals that IF he beats BRADLEY, ALEXANDER and MAIDANA(who hes already ducked), well if he beats all them cleaning out the division, using your logid he would have equalled Hatton, would you label Khan a hype job?
Once Hatton split with Warren, he looked for the big bouts and did it the right way. He became the #1 140lber...he wanted to move up to 147lbs to challenge Mayweather at some point, and pulled off a good win over Collazo. His defeats came against the two best in this era. If you look at his resume after the Tszyu bout, it is a good resume. Like I said, I'll wait to see if Khan can come out on top at 140lbs before I even compare his achievements to Hattons. And by the looks of it, Khan will be going after Marquez next whilst Alexander and Bradley square off.
Nicely put. I feel sorry for Ricky, no one will remember the rest just his two fights with Floyd and Pac.
Hatton = REAL DEAL. LIMITED SKILLS. GUTS TOOK HIM FARTHER THAN HE SHOULD HAVE GONE. Cotto = REAL DEAL. THOUGHT HE WAS A HYPEJOB UNTIL THE ZAB JUDAH FIGHT. Margarito = NEITHER. FRAUD. CHEATER. Berto = LOOKS LIKE A HYPEJOB, BUT HAS THE SKILLS TO BECOME THE REAL DEAL. TOO SOON TO TELL. Angulo = HYPEJOB. TYPICAL MEXICAN BRAWLER. ALREADY BEEN OUTBOXED ONCE. Alvarez = TOO SOON TO TELL. Cintron = REAL DEAL. HARD PUNCHER, GOOD SKILLS, AWKARD STYLE. LACKS HEART, BUT IS TOO UNDERRATED TO BE A HYPEJOB. WILL BE IN THE TOP 10 IN HIS DIVISION FOR A WHILE. Pavlik = REAL DEAL. LIMITED TALENT AND SKILLS, BUT HAS ACCOMPLISHED MORE THAN HE SHOULD HAVE. Pacquiao = REAL DEAL. PERIOD Floyd = REAL DEAL. PERIOD Kirkland = HYPE JOB. I LIKE HIS STYLE, BUT HE'LL GET OUTBOXED SOONER OR LATER. JCC Jr. = HYPE JOB. LIVING OFF HIS NAME. Bradley = HYPE JOB. MAY NOT BE TRUE, BUT I'M JUST NOT IMPRESSED BY HIM. Khan = HYPE JOB. WON'T BE GREAT. NOT BY THE HAIR ON HIS "CHINNY CHIN CHIN!!" Juan Ma. = TOO EARLY. LOVE HIS EXCITING STYLE, BUT I'M NOT SOLD ON HIM YET. Gamboa = LOOKS LIKE THE REAL DEAL, BUT IT'S TOO EARLY
The point isn't about Khan, he may or may not get those wins. Just using Khan as an example that to match Ricky's level of wins, it doesn't take all that much. Any fighter so long as he gets 3 or 4 really good names on their resume matches Hatton. As I said strip away all the other factors that made Ricky, like being a fan favourite, entertaining, all the rest, but if we judge him on wins alone, people are getting way ahead of themselves. He's had good wins, but nothing that special in IMHO.
I think he did pretty well overall on the world stage, which pretty much means not a "hype job" to me. He was never gonna be P4P #1, but he did engage in captivating fights in which he wasn't always favored to win. And he only lost twice, against the 2 best fighters in the entire world. Anyway, I surprisingly pretty much agree with the OP's list.
