hey guys i know we always get some comedians come on board but would appreciate some serious comments if any body can give me some helpful advice.. now i hyper extended my left elbow when i threw a jab during sparring for my pro debut, i had 2 fights after almost back to back so i never really had time to give it a good rest, now ive just had 5 weeks no punching after my last fight also the doctor did a quarter zone in the elbow and perscribed me with some good anti inflammotary tablets which have all seemed to be working but just getting back into sparring maybe 8 weeks in from my last match and along with the anti inflams i am strapping my elbow up very well but still every time i spar i am having it lock out and kind of pinch at least twice in a spar and it bloody hurts when it happens and stays sore for a day or so!? any help would be much appreciated as this is really holding me back in sparring having the worry of locking it out really plays on my mind and makes it hard for me to relax and throw the jab! does anybody have any idea why eubank jnr always has his elbow strapped up similar reason maybe? thanks
I think your dr should've started with nickel or at the most dime zone shot. Rub some Robitussin on it like a man
Sure you don't have some tennis elbow damage? Unfortunately, the best thing for that kind of thing is rest. Plain and simple. Ligament/tendon damage is a ***** to deal with. It really comes down to how much pain you're in and if you feel you can work through it. I had a tennis elbow injury that stopped me from lifting in the gym. Took about 8 months to recover. Just saying. (I'm in my 30s though, hehe) I'm still worried about re-injury now that I'm back in the gym. Elbow injuries suck, that much I can tell you. Another thing to check: Shoulder. Tight shoulder can extend down the arm, into the elbow, and even the forearm. Get a good massage to keep you loose is another good idea. Just be aware that some tight muscles can cause pain in a DIFFERENT area of the body. Everything is connected.
Don't spar. Sparring can lead to these sort of injuries because there's a lot of broken explosive movement similar to a real fight. Remember that every injury is an opportunity to improve something, so why don't you focus on your footwork, head movement etc. for example and leave out the exercises that involve extending your elbow for a while. Do some sprints, roadwork, squats... Rest your elbow for as long as you need to, even if it takes some time, you don't want to have problems for the rest of your life.
Great advice. :good I made the mistake of ignoring elbow pain and working through it to the point where it was just too painful to continue. Not worth it. Rest, heal, focus on other things.
my mate hyperextended during sparring ages ago with his right hand and it still till this day bothers him even with physio and such, i almost feel bad if he commits with a right hand and i make him miss completely
