    Hello,
I have just recently began taking a boxing class at a local gym. I noticed that at times when throwing the right cross while shadowboxing/throwing it at air, I experience elbow pain and think I may be hyperextending my elbow. Is this a technique problem? Should I fully extend my punches when shadowboxing? Or is this something newbies experience and my body just needs to adjust to as it gets used to the rigors of boxing? Thanks.

dont do it shadow boxing as its unnecessary but make sure when doing bagwork, sparring and fighting that you throw your right hand fully extending shoulder and elbow, sometimes you will miss and it will hurt like hell but get used to it as this is better than not being able to land at long range

relax your arms by your side. there is a slight bend. that is how far you should be throwing your punch. you'll realise when relaxed there is a bit more extension in your arm if you tense your triceps. your arm should not be extending that bit when punching. turn your punch over as well and this will stop your elbow flicking out as your elbow should be turning out.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll give these ideas a try. If you happen to think of anything else, let me know.
I think my main problem may be not turning my fist over enough so it is horizontal.

The most important thing is that you don't stop training. Let your elbow heal and start training again. You know, people just want you to quit training. Don't let this happen. :good

you will realize when comfortable there is a bit more expansion in your arm if you anxious your arms, your arm should not be increasing that bit when kickboxing....
