Maybe Milt McCrory.Cuevas would have trouble landing often with the iceman's range and movement, plus McCrory would likely shell up and get very negative when he tastes his power. It would be tough to get a stoppage more than 5 of 10 i'd say.

Would be similar to the Shields fight and Mcrory's with Jones, only a bit clearer in Pipino's favour than those were for Milton.

I do agree, Randy Shields was a monster in the chin department.

Both Wilfred and Pipino were pretty much shot in 1985/1986.
Still, a fight between them would have drawn interest.

Shields did seem to have a tough chin....interestingly not against Bentiez though.

That was a very curious fight. Shields, who had stood up very well to monster punchers like Leonard, Cuevas and Hearns folded up like a rag doll with Wilfred. Benitez decked him and then stopped him. Wonder what was up with that?

    Wilfred Benitez vs. Randy Shields.

Wilfred looked very strong in that bout.
Randy fought O.K. but showed no real strength, and was slapping with his right hand.

Wilfred tagged Randy with a real good right hand near the end of the 4th.
In Round 6, Wilfred opened up, and shook Shields, then dropped him with a
right to the back of the head.
The two went toe-to-toe for the rest of the round.
Sonny Shields didn't let Randy come out for Round 7.

Wilfred was ahead 5-1-0 in rounds.

I don't know why people keep saying Cuevas would decision Starling. I see Cuevas' only chance is to knock him out, and that would be exremely hard for him to do. I see Starling easily outclassing him.

What makesy you think these guys would have given Pipino troube:huh Pipino would have blown out all those guys. The only one who might have hung tough for a while would have been Davey Boy Green but even that fight wouldnt have went the distance..

I mean Shawn O'Sullivan:lol: You cant be serious?

I must admit im not familiar with Fernando Castro but do know the other fighters.

    anarchy,,,,,,,

Carlos Obregon,,,,,,,,went the distance with Pipino before he won the title, and
had Mr. Cuevas out on his feet in rounds 9 and 10.
Knocked Pipino down in Round 10, and pounded him all over the ring.
Had Pipino pinned and hanging on the ropes at the bell, ending the fight.
Had there been an 11th round,,,,,,,,,,,

Fernando Rocco Castro, very good Welterweight from Peru, South America.
His only loss in 35 bouts, a Close-Decision to Roger Stafford in 1982.

    How about Zeferino Gonzalez.......

Yes but everyone knows Pipino improved immnesely when he won the title, he also lost to Andy Price and several other fighters not to long before he was Champ. You have to remember when Cuevas was coming up he was just a teenager but shortly after that matured into an elite world class fighter.

Ill give you Zeferino " Speddy" Gonzalez who gave Duran fits and made the fight alot closer than the scorecards tell you. I can see him going the distance.

PS always like Speedy an underrated local fighter who i had the pleasure of meeting a few years ago.. He thought he beat Duran.

    Yes,,,,,,,,,,Pipino just a youngster in 1975.

Was manhandled in a few of his bouts, with experienced guys.

Not so sure Pipino doesn't have problems with Shawn O'Sullivan.
He was much like Jun-Sok Hwang.

Speedy, tall and lanky like Randy Shields.
Yes, I thought his bout with Roberto was a 1-point difference, very close.

Are you like Shawn O'Sullivans brother:lol:

Shawn O'Sullivan was literally smoked by Simon Brown and he never beat anyone of note to where you can have a case of saying he could compete or give him trouble.. O'Sullivan was aggressive and his chin wasnt that hot, not an ingrediant that would trouble Cuevas.. More like made for Cuevas....

I was thinking Hwang as aguy that might last with Cuevas he was tough as nails and could punch too.

    I'm talking a 1985 bout,,,,,,,,,,,,not 'Prime Pipino'

Remember, Pipino was flat knocked-out by Herman 'Kid' Montes, an original lightweight.
Pipino was out on his back for nearly 5-minutes.

Exactly, Lopez was lazy. allowing Cuevas to tee off would spell doom for Lopez. Iron chin or not.
Ward's best defense is his nonstop offense. souldn't allow Cuevas to fully open up. but Cuevas' power shohld be enough to score points.
