Hypothetical h2h: Cotto on his best night@140 v Hatton at his 140 best?

I would take cotto at 147 but his chin and stamina at 140 are nothing specia and i think hatton would be able to wear him down and maybe stop him.

 

Styles makes fights and I see Cotto's style all wrong for Hatton. Hatton didn't hold in the Paulie fight because he didn't had to, he would be holding the whole fight vs Cotto.

We all saw how open Hatton is to a left hook. That's Cotto's bread and butter. And Cotto's pretty accurate with punches. I think Cotto would stop him near rounds 9-10.

 

Even though Hatton's work is a lot better at 140 I would still go with Cotto.

I just think is all around the better fighter...he has the power to hurt Hatton a lot more then Ricky can hurt him back and I keep picturing the 5th (or 6th) round of Hatton's fight against Urango when he was in a fair bit of distress from body shots. That changed the whole dynamic of the fight.. Hatton was teeing off on Urango before then and after that he took a more huggy, cautious approach for the rest of the fight.

If Cotto lands a well placed body shot he has Ricky in all sorts. I can see an arguement for Ricky he has the better resume at 140 and is the more proven fighter there, but I just reckon Hatton doesnt have the tools to deal with a guy like Cotto.

Cotto was inconsistent and a bit drained at 140, but on his best night I would favour him over Hatton in a mythical matchup.

Hatton has achieved way more at 140 though.

Hatton would rough Cotto up, hurt his body and take advantage of his suspect stamina to finish him late.

His superior ring intelligence enables him to hit-without-being hit; Hatton's pressure is more of the sporadic wild variety, not the constant water on stone approach that worked for Margarito; in this contest Cotto can time Ricky for punches, and also stand and trade a bit. Ricky gets worn down and taken out late (11th round possibly).

Cotto was fairly good at 140, but the Cotto we know today didn't truly hit his stride until the Mosley fight. It was at that point that he transformed into a "world beater." For the most part he could only narrowly outdistance himself from some of the B level competition at 140, and did so with superior strength for the weight class. All the guys that threw back consistently made things interesting. Cotto is still basically allergic to pressure. He's skillfull under pressure, but has to be coming forward in his 140 incarnation to be effective enough to beat a word class threat like Ricky Hatton. Stylistically, I just don't see it, for obvious reasons.
