140 Hatton, 147 Cotto. It's no rocket science. At LWW Cotto was pretty much stunned in every title fight due to weight drain, and the best he looked was vs. Mosley and Gomez - at WW, with less dehydration, a better jab, better timing, seemingly better chin and stamina. He improved from the 140 Cotto.

At LWW, Hatton is just a beast like Cotto at 147. Other than the tune-up vs. Lazcano where he won 11 rounds but was stunned, he wasn't ever hurt bad in a LWW fight, and maybe the best Hatton at 140 is yet to come. Cotto was hurt at least 5 times, also knocked down bad.

At 140, I see Ricky having success with body punches, on the inside wrestling and hanging in in a close fight up to the point of the 8th round, where Cotto gets tired, like he did vs. Margarito. Hatton ran into a perfect check hook vs. Mayweather, was hurt vs. Collazo in a 147 fight. But he definitely can take a punch better than Cotto, and his stamina, pressure and punch output would be enough to see the 8th round, and there's no stopping from that point. Cotto can't deal with late fight pressure, he gets out-pressured.

Cotto, looking best ever, gave a boxing lesson to Margarito up to a point where body and head punches started to break him down and his stamina problems became more evident than ever. With serious dehydration at 140 and Hatton's BETTER body punching than Tony's (Hatton has a very underrated body punch), I see Ricky winning at 140. Hatton by close UD or late TKO.

At 147, he might not see the 8th to take over, I'd pick Cotto by mid-fight TKO.

I think Hatton was hurt against Urango, to a lesser degree against Phillips and Magee.

And I disagree Miguel was "stunned" in every title fight he had at 140. He was caught by a nice temple shot once, Corley's specialty where he sucks you in and suprises you with a well placed shot. He was wobbled a few times by Torres who in essence is a bigger pure puncher then Hatton is and continues to show he isnt just a flash in the pan fighter.
Other then that he tore through his opposition at the weight mostly. Didnt see him blink an eye againt Bailey and Pinto, to big punchers..neither against Abdulaev.

Hatton isnt the better body puncher per se either IMO, probably is debatable though, I just dont think so..He just is the better worker. Hatton bangs to the body, its not always accurate. He has a beaut left rip no doubt. But Miguel lands more pinpoint shots to the midsection and his better footwork allows him to work the body with more finesse and efficiency.

this myth about hatton doing nothing but holding is just that, a myth. he got in the habit of doing it and floyd sr has helped him get back out of it, basically fighting the same as before kostya tszyu.

as far as the question goes, i dont know what cottos best night at 140 was but hatton is by far the most established fighter at the weight.
having said that , i think cotto may be too strong for ricky and would knock him out in the later rounds of a classic fight

Ricky started holding and mauling more when his opposition improved. It seems to be an instinctive thing when he fights someone who is more skilled then he is. Its smart thing in a way..he is a athletically gifted and physical fighter but he is not all that well schooled.

I dont see how its a myth..Its a very real thing he does, it evident throughout several fights during his career and it made him go from an exciting fighter who I looked forward to watching to one of the more boring fighters around.

Malignaggi just wasnt a good enough fighter to force Ricky into that hugging style he sometimes implements.

not so sure i agree, he didnt do alot of it against tszyu and he wasnt known for it at all before that fight. urango was the biggest case where he did it, truly a stinker of a fight, he wasnt allowed to against mayweather, chased after lascano all night but didnt excessively hold and the castillo fight was full of dirty tricks all coming from the other guy, collazo too, he was hanging on for dear life by the end but i thought it was a pretty good scrap
i think he gets unfairly criticised for this, but its all about opinions.

hatton never loses his heart (maybe his head sometimes), he goes out on his shield.

we're talking on their best night here, the hatton on the koysta night wears down and makes cotto quit like he did koysta, and like margarito did cotto or tko's him. no way cotto ko's him in the 5th or 6th.

At 140 Cotto would destroy Hatton. Cotto has too much skill, too much power, and is too fast at 140 for Hatton.

at 140, Hatton always and probably by tko

Hatton would not be slow pressure the way Margo was, also he couldnt outbox Hatton the way he did Margo early in that fight, no chance.

    147 is a different matter

cotto doesn't have too much power, he fought koysta remember, and certainly isn't too fast, and no one "destroys" hatton at 140.

i can not see anyone beating hatton at his natural 140,but he does not move up well so had this fight been 147 i would favour cotto with tko.

Yes at 140 Cotto has too much power for Hatton. Hatton was getting rocked by Lazcano and Urango, Cotto would kill the man.

Hatton fought a faded Koysta, remember that.

Hatton as fought no one the level of Cotto at 140, I have complete confidence Cotto would killl him in the ring, the same way Zab would, the same way Bradley would.

    FAIL

The first paragraph may be understandable, but your next two statements completely ruin your argument and make yourself sound like a hater.

For the record, I would suggest that Hatton would stop Cotto late at 140 - he wouldn't be able to outbox Hatton as he did Margo, but Ricky would need to be smart as his chin is only good, rather than granite.

At 147, Cotto would most likely wear Hatton down and stop him after about 8.

I think Hatton would take Cotto late and tire him out.

    Hatton TKO10-12
