    Suppose you are correct

I still think the best 140 version of Cotto was too naive to deal with the Hatton that took out Tszyu

Hatton by either UD or late round stoppage.

What we have to remember is even on a goodnight Cotto struggled to make the 140 limit and that reflected in the way he got buzzed in fights.

He steps up to 147 and takes on a pressure fighter in Margurito we saw what happened there. 5-6 rounds of some truly awesome boxing skills I really thought he had it in the bag. Then it all catches up with the poor **** he runs out of steam and gets battered.

Same thing at 140 he takes on a pressure fighter in Hatton except the early rounds would be closer as Hatton has better boxing skills then Margurito.

Before you all start I know Margi and Hatton have different styles blah blah blah but they do the same thing. They systematically wear down their opponents by applying constant in your face pressure.

    Naive about what?

I think the Miguel Cotto that fought Malinaggi, the same one that had taken out Maussa in 8, while it took hatton 9, the one that battered N'dou down, the one that destroyed Corley, Bailey, and Torres has more than enough ring experience to face Hatton at 140.

Hatton is not physically as big and definitely doesn't have as good a chin as Margarito. So to compare the two comes off as ridiculous.

Hatton, in a way, is sort of a cross between the two.

Margarito is the ultimate pressure fighter - never gives his opponent a second to himself. Backed up by a granite chin, huge heart and good power he would be a serious handful.

Cotto is an offensive minded boxer/puncher, though I can't quite put a finger on who he reminds me of. Often looks vulnerable, whilst capable of outboxing people as well as blasting them out.

On Saturday you saw (for the first time in years) the REAL Ricky Hatton that Brit fans have seen for the past decade. EDUCATED rather than reckless pressure, good (though not great) skills backed up by good power, a varied attack.

The Cotto that fought Paulie was DRAINED. He wasn't for Maussa.

Hatton took one round more, but Cotto stopped him on cuts, not a clean KO.

He also didn't batter N'Dou down - he won a clear UD, that is all. Not a wide one, not a beatdown.

Hatton would have walked through Corley and Bailey, and disarmed Torres easily.

You have a serious inability to be objective.

Don't even think about calling me a hugger, because I backed Hatton to stop Paulie and refuse to give him any more credit than he deserves for doing so.

at 140 (assuming hatton that fought ray olivera) id have to go with him over cotto, cotto was just WAY to weak at 140 to cope with the pace of hatton.

yes cotto is a better boxer, but he has NEVER been rushed like hatton would rush him. at 147 hatton couldnt rush him due to A) hatton is **** at 147 and B) cotto would be FAR to strong.

however at 140 cotto had to conserve enegy, and unless he knocked hatton out very early then he would be in alsorts of deep water come round 8 or 9.

    least thats my take.

your right about cotto being under valued at 140 due to some fights, but its fair to say hatton gets under rated at 140 due to some **** performances at 147 and also the 2 stinkers he has had at 140

I'm really surprised it is that close. To me, Cotto is simply at another level. I see a bigger beating for Hatton than against Mayweather. Well, i guess we will never know.

Well yeah at 140 it is because cotto was green and naive as beeston as pointed out and hatton at 140 is very strong as he showed on saturday.

Which is why my learned friend I said:

"Before you all start I know Margi and Hatton have different styles blah blah blah but they do the same thing. They systematically wear down their opponents by applying constant in your face pressure."

Margi uses his chin to apply his pressure Hatton uses his brain. Same result.

You can say whatever you like, but it is still ridiculous. Hatton does not apply pressure with his brain. He was still lunging in against Malinaggi, its just he didn't have to worry about paying for it because Malinaggi has absolutely no power whatsoever. Those mistakes against Cotto would lead to Ricky tasting the canvas.

Cotto is on another level than Hatton at 140 and at 147. Cotto would punish Ricky terrible and most likely KO or TKO him. You all over rate Ricky and underrate Cotto at 140.

I believe someone said Hatton would walk through Corley and Torres, I want to know why he never did. Hell, Ricky couldn't walk through Urango and Lazcano, what in the hell could he do to Torres. I really think Ricky would have a hell of a time with a number of Top 10 Jr. WW.

Right Ok but ricky said it was a far polished performance but he still beat the number 2 JWW recognised by ring. Yeah torres has a punch but hatton would do things differently now, urango only hurt him to the body as hatton slowed down due to a chest infection, and Lazcano I just believe he wasn't as up for it as he should have been.

Ricky beat the #2 Jr. WW, I give him that, but we are talking about him beating Cotto, and Cotto is a class above all the current Jr. WW top ten, excluding Zab.

If Ricky couldn't effective handle Lazcano, a lightweight with a punch, how could he deal with Cotto?
