Hypothetical h2h: Cotto on his best night@140 v Hatton at his 140 best?

Good fight, I think Hatton's pressure would get him in the end but I would love to see it.

 

Hatton can pressure as much as Margo without having to take all those shots.

He took a hell of a lot of shots from Lazcano, Urango, and Collazo, he took some major shots from Floyd too.

 

I'm not saying he wouldn't take ANY shots, I'm saying he wouldn't just hold his head still and eat them like Marg does. He would get hit, the question is how often and how hard. Cotto isn't Floyd by a long shot, and Hatton at 140 is a different beast from Hatton at 147.

I have Hatton as a slight favorite, but only slightly. I think he has a very difficult style for Cotto and he can hurt Miguel.

 

The Tszyu that fought Hatton is better than anyone Cotto fought during his reign at 140 pounds.

Cotto's footspeed is not as quick as Hatton's which was part of Hatton's success in closing the gap and not allowing Tszyu full range on a straight right hand. Hatton's chin at 140 is also better than Cotto's was at this weight, as well as his stamina.

Tszyu would most likely have caught Cotto, hurt him badly and finished him soon after.

 

You are right Cotto isn't Floyd so both guys are going meet each other at the center of the ring and exchange. Cotto has faster hands and shorter punches, and he has power, who do you think will get the better of the exchanges on the inside?

If they choose to box, Cotto can fight at a distance and pot shot circles around Hatton, Hatton is not a great counter puncher and I doubt he would want to chase down Cotto and engage in in-fighting.

Cotto outclasses Hatton in every single objective metric in which you judge a fighter.

 

Even that version of Kostya would have probably caught and stopped Cotto, and imho if his fight with Ricky had taken place in the states he would have beaten Hatton too. In fact, I would take prime KT to stop Margarito even at 147 but I accept differing opinions lol... no way Marg eats KT's right hands like he did Miguel's without going to sleep.

 

No the Tszyu that fought Hatton was not a more dangerous fighter than Corley nor Torres. Tszyu was a shell of himself in that fight and everyone knows that.

Cotto's footspeed isn't as quick as Hatton in the Tszyu fight, it is faster. Hatton's chin at 140 is a question mark because he never fought any prime bangers in the division. Why hasn't Hatton fought Torres, Holt, or Witter? You might have a point on the stamina because of the weight drain issues Cotto had, but I doubt the fight would last long enough for stamina to be a problem.

The Tszyu that fought that night couldn't beat any top 5 Jr. WW today, let alone Cotto in his prime at 140.

 

KT was past his best when he fought Ricky, but the tactics the ref allowed had a lot to do with what happened in that fight imho, as well as a vicious low blow by Ricky.

 

If you doubt Ricky would want to chase down Cotto and engage in in-fighting then get out of this thread and go watch some Hatton fights, then come back and give an opinion that makes sense.

 

Tszyu had just come off of a dominant performance over Sharmba Mitchell and looked fantastic doing it. He got him out of there earlier than Mayweather or Williams did, at a higher weight. To suggest he wasn't as dangerous as "Chop Chop", who has failed everytime he fought a decent fighter, is a joke.

Tszyu is still a bigger puncher than todays Jr. Welterweights. If you can't see that Hatton has a clear edge in footspeed than I can no longer continue this debate.

 

Yes I do doubt he would want to engage in in-fighting. If he got inside against Cotto what do you think he would do, let his hands go or clinch? I know what he would do, Cotto would beat him in the inside so bad that he would clinch. Which then leaves him trying to get inside, eventually he would start jumping in and Cotto would take him out.
