How would it play out? Would DLH be able to impose his size and reach advantage or would Cotto's murderous body punching do the trick? Lets here it from you guys...
cmon lets start hearing all the y delahoyawould not cotto out posts! cotto would wear delahoya's body out, oscar great chin but doesnt like getting his body hit hence his trunks around his nipples.
Prime for Prime Oscar kills him. At this point of their careers Cotto wears him down wins the later rounds and take a decision.
even rigth now it will be dificult for cotto to beat oscar just remember the figth whit mosley which imo he held back im sure cotto can wear oscar down whith body punches but he will be wide open for hes vaunted left hook so i say oscar by ko
height reach and size advantage along with a powerful jab over slightly above average power and workrate. I think DLH would expose some of Cottos mistakes and take a close victory. I didnt see anything impressive for Cotto against Mosley but Mosley going after a bigger looking boxer. I think Oscar will let the fight come to him.
I always wanted to see this fight and was hoping the fight would come off. I'm not as interested in the Mayweather/Cotto match up as everyone else. Anyone Mayweather fights it would be the same thing with him in his shell for four rounds then playing peek-a-boo with pots shots, and then pointing toward victory. I don't think DLH/Cotto would go the distance. I can see DLH gassing out in final rounds but I can also see DLH stopping Cotto before those final rounds. Cotto is a better match for Oscar than Mayweather and I think his come-forward style is what would do him in as Oscar is one of the best counterpunchers in the business, that and his left hook is so sneaky it seems to work magic.
Cotto has proven he can box with the best of them, he's footwork is underrated do to vast number of different styles he has faced. In my opinion Cotto's footwork is much better than DLH as Hoya has displayed lack of footwork at this point in his career. I can see Cotto basically doing what he did to Mosley and winnng a UD. I don't think the present version will cause Cotto much trouble as DLH is not even as fast/quick as Mosley. His vaunted left hook would probably never even hit Cotto fluch because when Cotto attacks with his left he keeps his right hand firmly pressed against his face. DLH's right hand attack is proably one of his worse assests and his finishing capabilities are sub-par in my opinion, look at his performance with Vargas who was stopped by a barage of wild flurries against the ropes, I don't see Cotto getting placed against the ropes much less being stopped by such wild flurries.
Would be a very good fight. I am not a phan of either, but an appreciator of both. I would excpect Oscar's superior (IMO) boxing skills to allow him to either control the early going or maintain a slight edge in the fight. I think it would tak a while, but no problem Cotto seems to be relentless. Finally Cotto begins to wear him down, w/ body shots..but Oscar is to good to let this get one sided. I believe we would have a very competitive fight...but even at this stage of his carear DLH has to many advantages and superlatives for Cotto. Oscar by UD.
Handspeed is what has caused Oscat problems in his career. Cotto dont have great handspeed. I think that Oscar Jab and faster hands would cause Cotto fits and I honestly think that Oscar would beat Cotto which is something that I have always said. Oscar losing to Floyd and Cotto winning over Shane doesnt change my mind.
DLH's lack of footwork last fight is easy to explain. If you fight flat footed you have more power to your punch. Oscar tried to overpower Floyd. That was his strategy. To hit him harder than he'd ever been hit. The strategy didn't win the fight and he used the same tactic against Whitaker. Usually he goes flat footed for an assault or when exchanging blows and then gets back on his toes. What's interesting about Mayweather fight is he was flatfooted whole night which means his whole strategy relied on getting that one punch in that would make the difference.
