Charles by a ever cautious decision win. Always weary of that Foster power. But Ezzard has the skills to constantly be on the move & keep away from Bob's power shots, while scoring himself. Diego Corrales .Vs. Tony Baltazar Lightweight, 12 Rounds.
Wow this would be a fight of the year type of fight. Id like to pick Baltazar since hes from SGV too(La Puente) but Im gonna give an unbiased opinion here. Both these guys are pretty much on Par as far as Power. I remember Baltazar moving up to Welter and giving Mcgirt a scare, also thought he was robbed against a prime Howard Davis. However he wasnt the most well rounded fighter either especially his defense. I remember Robin Blake stopping him and Blake fought similar to Corrales Both Very tall Lightweights who like to scrap on the inside. Although Blake didnt carry Corrales punching power. Baltazar knocking out Corrales isnt out of the question, however more times than not i see Corrales taking this one with quicker hand speed inside hed punish Baltazar alot but Corrales would take a beating too. Im gonna say Corrales stops Baltazar in 7 in a brutal War with both fighters going down a few times before. Simon Brown vs Mando Muniz
Tough, tough match up. Brown is a great infighter & is rarely outmuscled on the inside, But I have to think Muniz has the tools to pull this one off in a very tighly contested barnburner. Brown would rely on his left hook, but Muniz' chin was granite. Muniz, close decision win. Joe Calzaghe .Vs. Alan Minter 15 Rounds.
I am one of Minter's biggest supporters, and not overly fond of Calzaghe....however Joe wins this one in 8-4 fashion. Minter is never in danger, but Joe's workrate and speed is too much for Alan IMHO! Frank Bruno vs ken Norton
Fireworks early and often, with Norton finding Bruno's chin once too often. Norton KO6. Matthew Saad Muhammad vs Michael Moorer @ LHW
Saad Muhummed by mid round stoppage...Far more proven and impressive then the young and at times weight affected Moorer at 175. Rodolfo Gonzalez vs Jose Luis Castillo
Castillo wins at 135 or below, Gonzalez any higher than that. JLC had so much power at LW, and I can see a mid round stoppage there. Archie Moore vs Tiger Jack Fox @ 175
Tiger Fox would be in this fight but eventually The Old Mongoose gets him out of there,Moore would Ko Fox in 10. Antonio Tarver vs Yaqui Lopez
I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, because there's no way Castillo's stopping the original El Gato.
While I do think he had Castillo winning this too easy,I can see Castillo stopping him late but im not 100% sold on that, I can see Gato pulling this out too,But more times than not Ive got Castillo in this one. What about Yaqui Lopez vs Antonio Tarver?
I think it really speaks to the wealth of talent the LHW division posessed during Yaqui's heyday that he was actualy considered a second tier fighter. I think he was at least a full bar ahead of Tarver as a fighter in his prime, and would've dealt him a beating accordingly. I don't know what Tarver could do to get the win here. He'd get out-boxed or out-brawled and eventually beaten up.
This reflects even more favorably upon John Conteh, who outboxed and beat Yaqui virtually single-handedly in a defense. Were it not for his fragile hands..what a superb fighter he was. And on that note...John Conteh vs Archie Moore..
