I really admire her bravery. Defecting from North Korea takes more cojones than doing so from Cuba, honestly...especially with lots of attention on her already before she did so.

 

That corn-row look is generally not good on most girls.

 

That makes sense. I'm sure they have to be very tolerant of defectors in South culture, though, right? "The enemy of my enemy" and whatnot?

 

So this girl won a vacant 126lb world title in her pro debut, made her first defense against countrywoman Hyo Min Kim (who eventually retired undefeated, 3-0-1 in world title bouts and would later hold the same 130lb title Choi has now) - the only blemish on her record, a draw - and defended another six times before moving up and capturing the interim super featherweight title, upgraded to regular in her next bout, and now defended once. Literally has never fought in anything but world title bouts and is undefeated.

Crazy.

How did she escape my notice until today?

I had never actually heard of Berezowski, the Canadian woman I was thinking of is Diana Bang, who co-starred in The Interview as Un's propaganda minister. She's of South Korean descent as is Randall Park, who played Un, and both received threats as well for their portrayals.

My first girlfriend when I was a little kid growing up in Rozzy was Vietnamese. Choi actually resembles her quite a bit.
