Honestly, the comments Cancio made weren't particularly incendiary.

It's not out of line to express a desire to appear on bigger cards and to make as much money as you can...

Also, about talking to your promoter first...It didn't sound like Oscar had much time for Chango-probably because Cancio upset one of his prized fighters in Machado.

GDP's reaction seems a bit rash, personally.

Still, Cancio's got some bona fides and a good story, so I can see him getting some notable fights in the future. PBC has LSC and Tank, and Top Rank has Herring and Beltran. I can see one of those promotions picking up Cancio and grooming him for a challenge against one of those guys.

Cancio won two of three this year, picked up a world title, and sold out Fantasy Springs every time. He checks those boxes.

Cancio was selling out Fantasy Springs as a headliner, so it's not like GDP were losing money on him.

Looks like GBP is firing an employee bases on emotion instead of productivity and profit. They’re letting Cancio go because he made negative public comments.

    Talk about knowing business.

Let me put it like this:

I work for a very popular financial institution. This year I've hit my numbers every month. In previous years I've had ups and downs, but this year I seem to be holding my own. Of course, just like with most jobs, I find some things unfair, and I'm unhappy about those things.

I take to Social media and rip my company apart, potentially damaging their brand in some markets. My Company does not like that and fires me. Sounds pretty fair, does it not?

Have you ever heard the saying: "Don't bite the hand that feed you". GBP was feeding Cancio, gave him multiple opportunities, promoted him, arranged his fights near his hometown, and gave him air time. All Cancio had to do was keep winning, he did not, and to add the cherry on top he talked bad about his employer.

GBP or any promotional company are not charity organizations. They are multi million dollar businesses, and most of their fighters are employees, most employees and indispensable, a fact that anyone in the work force should be familiar with.

Negative public comments have an impact on business reputation. Businesses run on reputation, especially when you have strong competitors.

Refer to my previous post for example.

    Its ALL business.

Resigning a fighter who’s entertaining and sells tickets because of some negative comments might have a worse impact on company reputaion too. Whether It’s a business decision or an emotional decision, we should soon find out.

At $35 a ticket, I'm not sure how much profit he was generating for GBP.

I guarantee you that if Cancio was selling $100 tickets, we may have a different scenario. If Cancio was getting people to subscribe to DAZN, we would have a different outcome.

Like I said previously, "MOST" employees are indispensable, Cancio should have continued proving his worth. After the severe beating he took last weekend and his unfavorable comments about the hand that feeds him he had this coming.

A life lesson that Cancio may learn from and take with him if any other promotional outfit decides to pick him up.

GBP literally cut Cancio loose because of their own emotions. Because they were offended by his public remarks.
And not once did I say Cancio should have been overpaid. You are suggesting that GBP was loosing money on Cancio. If that is the case then yes, of course they should have let him go. But everything points to Cancio being actually a capable draw. So it wasn´t the money.

My point is that GBP should have tried to figure out what the issues were. Not just cut ties. If they could not come to terms then so be it.
But GBP said "**** you and your big mouth" the moment Cancio lost. What a brilliant move on their part...

Again, GBP is a multi million dollar business. Cancio is at this point a contender who just took a severe beating from a B level fighter. If GBP doesn't want to continue to invest in Cancio its because they don't feel he is worth it. Cancio made a mistake lashing out against his boss, had he beat Alvarado he perhaps would have likely stayed on the GBP roster. If Cancio is worth what YOU think he is worth Matchroom or PBC will pick him up, since he sells tickets, right?

I don't think you know enough about the business dealings to claim that it was done out of pure emotion.

But biting the hand that feeds you, and then performing awful and damaging your stock is not a good combination.

Actually I don't know s*** about it. I'm just using COMMON SENSE & LOGIC and looking at it from a business persepctive, you should try using some from form time to time. My friend badbot seems to know EXACTLY what GBP was feeling and thinking when they decided to cut Cancio from their roster, yo should aski him what GBP's BM is.

I am not saying that Cancio is some big draw. All I am saying is that he was able to sell tickets and GBP clearly wasn´t loosing money on him. So it wasn´t the financials.
So why cut him? Because he lost? Or because GBP got butthurt?

Cancio isn´t the first to open his mouth. Canelo and Garcia have had their complaints as well. Only they are stars and GBP worked things out with them.
GBP needs to fix the issue instead of just blindly cutting ties. Why is it that so many in their stable are going public with their complaints?
And again, I am not condemning them for cutting Cancio, only the way they did it. (They should have sat down, seen what is going on and then made their decision. But they went "nah, **** you and your big mouth").
