I’m positive Holyfield would’ve beaten Tyson in 91

smh...I still can't believe that some people think that tyson was in good mental and physical condition for the Douglas fight.

 

I'm not sure exactly but I believe Holmes had an exhibiton match during that layoff, don't quote me tho because I'm not 100% sure about that. But Holmes went on to school Ray Mercer and go 12 competitive rounds with Holyfield and that was 4 years after losing to Tyson so using the ''But Holmes was old'' excuse doesn't work.

 

And also why bring up that Michael Spinks was a LW, so was Moorer and he beat Holyfield once.

 

So then why even bring up the point that he started as a LW?

Holyfield would be the favourite, yes

However, it would be a tougher fight. The 91-92 Tyson rebounded nicely post Douglas. He showed good stamina in both fights against Ruddock

The post prison Tyson was a 3-4 round fighter (and the Tyson who fought Lewis wasn't even a 1 round fighter).

Do i think Holyfield beats 91-92 Tyson? Yes. However, Holyfield was not physically as strong in 91-92 as he was in 96, so he would not be able to muscle Tyson around. On the other hand, the 91 Holyfield was a bit quicker than the 96 version.

Holyfield probably beats 91 Tyson by decision but will have to do through some serious moments to do it. Competitive fight, this one.

 

This is a good one to keep an open mind on.

Holyfield certainly always had certain stylistic advantages over Tyson, though nobody knew it at the time, perhaps including Holyfield.

It is obvious that hew would always have been troubled by a good infighter, who could force the fight on him, and get away with it!

Tyson undoubtedly declined before he fought Holyfield.

Before he wen to prison, he fought who ever was stupid enough to get in the ring with him.

After he wen't to prison, he didn't want anybody of not, unless a title was on the line.

That probably tells the story right there.

Having said that, if I was managing Tyson at any stage of his career, I would have avoided Holyfield like the clap!

A large part of the answer, is that they always wanted it!

 

Well both of their common opponents said Shavers hit (much) harder, i think i'll take their word for it rather than yours.

 

Well Tyson was actually getting things going after his second jail stint. He fought Francis, Savarese and Golota in the same year which was the most activity Tyson had in quite some time. Plus he finally had a good trainer in his corner, someone to get Mike back to proper fundamentals and got rid of the crappy wannabe Jay Bright.

The comparison with Holyfield doesn't match. No one said Mike was washed up at this time, just not the same fighter he was before his first prison stint. Tyson went 7-2 with 1 no contest (from 1992-2000) by the time he fought Golota. That's 10 fights in 8 years including prison and 10 fights in 5 years post prison.

Not the same as Holyfield who overcame "heart problems" - most likely attributed to steroids. Also, Tyson didn't quite want it anymore. You can mark him down for that.
