I a champ who had a street named after me in Long Island?

    I was once a household name who upset an immortal champion. And
    when I retired they named the street my house was on with my name
    somewhere in New York...I was a dandy. Who am I ?

    Good show JJ. Years ago while at work I came across a sign outside
    an old well kept house. The sign said "this was the home where James
    J Corbett lived in for many years". It is now a historical site and the
    street is named Corbett Place in Bayside, NY...
