I was a HOFamer who had the most unusual big fight...I was almost tkod BEFORE the bell sounded starting the fight, against a great opponent. Probably the only time a great fighter was stopped before the fight. Who was I,and what transpired ? P.s. I won the fight...
dp, i thought i would stump the panel, but you are right.Canzoneri was hit on the head by the mike just before the bell and suffered a severe cut.. But they alloiwed the fight to start and brave Tony outfought the bigger and heavier power punching Mclarnin ,to win a 10 rd decision... What a GREAT rfighter Canzi was ! In 175 fights against the best fighters of his time, he was stopped only ONCE in his Last bout by the young great left hooker Al[Bummy] Davis...Canzi was easily one of the greatest lightweights of alltime, I believe...b.b.
I totally agree bb...Canzoneri had a really improvisational style of drawing opportunities for countering. Would have been confusing to fight a style like that...
