I actually think Wilder will beat Chisora

I saw a vid from talksport yesterday titled “BREAKING NEWS Wilder Chisora is on” or something, it’s a 34min long vids but they changed the title now

 

"but Chisora struggled with a 40 year old Gerald Washington and Washington has a glass chin"

That was a weird performance, at the time I thought Chisora was totally shot. But in light of Chisora's wins over Joyce and Wallin, I now see it as anomalous: perhaps Chisora had no motivation to get up for 41 year old Washington. We know that Joyce had something left because he went on to give Hrgovic a decent distance fight. Both Joyce and Wallin hit the deck and they are more durable than Washington.

Also, Washington came to boxing in his late 20's and seems to take gym seriously, so he probably wasn't a badly shopworn 41, with a lot of experience. And he did have some skill: drew with Mansour over 10, who could punch a bit, schooled a faded Chambers, KO8 Helenius in a close fight, was ahead vs prime Miller after 3 rounds, was really ahead vs prime Wilder after 4.

 

That's the one I'd imagine

 

This could be a pretty great fight actually.

 

Not exactly a great feat drawing against Mansour.

I don't begrudge a tentative performance for a tune up after a nasty KO loss. To me he looked in control and just wanted to get some rounds in. Was nice to see him use that jab more

I agree he's far from his prime though

 

It was clear from watching the first 2mins it wasn’t a confirmed thing and just more speculation

Ah, sometimes I think the media start rumours when they have nothing to talk about lol.
I generally don’t believe it or pay much attention until it’s scheduled.

 

Yeah more today with both fighters on a video call with contracts
It's got legs I guess but like you say let's see them in the ring

Wilder’s fight against Curtis Harper fell through, likely because Wilder’s team was nervous that the mid level journeyman was a bit too tricky, tough and determined to be totally safe as an opponent, or at least too likely to go the distance, hence low level journeyman Herndon was called in.

The only ways I see Wilder winning are:

1. Chisora falls off significantly beyond where he was vs Wallin and Joyce

2. Wilder was playing possum against Herndon on the instruction of his team, getting rounds in, not throwing/pulling punches and trying to lull future opponents into a false sense of security

3. There are strange behind the scenes machinations to get Wilder the win, in order to make him “credible” for a “big fight” against Usyk

I don’t think the wheels will suddenly fall off for Chisora and I don’t think there’s a conspiracy here, so Chisora should win comfortably.

The Wilder I saw against Parker and Zhang looked totally shot and given Wilder is almost 2 years older now than he was vs Zhang, it should be a worse Wilder and probably not just slightly worse, given he lost the fire after Fury 3.

 

In all fairness to Wilder, it looked to me in the last fight like he was trying to do more with his left. I have never been a fan, but he said he got surgery and I wish the best for him at this point.
