I actually think Wilder will beat Chisora

5+ years ago Wilder would have flattened him but he just doesn’t pull the trigger anymore.

 

Nice observation about Wilder being gunshy, he has looked like a guy who fights scared. scared of his chin being tapped again. A fighter with zero confidence . Can he can over come that at his age?

 

I guess it's a combination of things - as you say, he's worried about his chin (rightly) because everyone knows he's not massively durable now (and for obvious reasons, getting hurt isn't the best plan for future health).

I think he's also, probably, aware on some level that he needs to fight guys he'd always have struggled with if he's going to generate any real interest (and therefore money) and might be a little bit overwhelmed by the metaphorical odds against him - he spent his prime fighting mostly journeymen that he could beat fairly easily, he's in a different world now and I suspect he knows it.

And equally, to some extent, I think he knows that his opponents know he can be beaten (and how) - the aura is gone, he's not facing guys scared to take the fight to him anymore.

Every boxing match now is letting prospects, contenders and champions "marinate" fights the people want to see for 15 years by never fighting each other and only fighting in mismatched bouts, then finally letting them fight at the prime age of 40 after three once-a-year tune ups.

 

Wilder has no power anymore, I don’t see him knocking anyone out. The athleticism required, and the deep rooted spiritual belief that he can knock out anyone on earth has gone.

 

Wilder can’t pull the trigger anymore. Chisora can still fight full out with what he’s got left.

nope. But it’s fine and I’ll watch. What I don’t want to see is either of them being massacred by Wardley or Usyk. They want to fight on the senior tour of has-beens? Have at it. Get Ruiz in on it too.

 

Wilder seems to have declined in the only area that ever made him any good. Power is the last thing to go, and he should definitely still have it, but his confidence to use it seems to have gone. I don't think it's just physical issues with Wilder, mentally he doesn't seem like the same guy after the two beatings Fury dished out on him. When he came back, he KO'd Helenius in one round, and everyone thought 'normal service has resumed', but then an hour later, he literally goes and cries about it in the press conference, talking about brain damage and ****. A complete 180 from the guy who used to talk about wanting a body on his record. Maybe he's a better person nowadays outside of the ring, which is a good thing, but he definitely doesn't have the same killer instinct anymore inside it. He didn't even seem all that disappointed when he lost to Parker, unlike the guy who refused to accept his losses to Fury.

He's the complete antithesis of Chisora. There's a reason, despite all his losses, and never becoming a champion, that Brits love him. He is a true natural-born fighting man, who will never lose his hunger, and gives 100% every single time. He will find it hard once he's retired to stay away. Even this version, who probably should have retired long ago just for the sake of his health, can still give anybody a hard night.

Honestly, I think Chisora mauls him. Probably one of the worst fights this version of Wilder could take. I think even peak Wilder would've had a problem. Fury showed the style you need to use to beat him, and Chisora has always fought that style. The only thing Wilder has always had in his favour, is that one right hand, but I have less belief that this version can even use it, and that's if Chisora will even allow him the chance. You can call me biased towards the Brit if you wish (I'm not), but I can't see past a Chisora win here.
