I agree Mayweather-Baldomir is a good comparison to Clottey-Pac for PPV #s.

Maybe not perfect, but it's as close as you can get.

In fact, Baldomir managed to beat Clottey.....DQ, but it's still a win.

People talk about JMM being a good comparison, but it's not considering JMM was the #2 PFP fighter, was talked about all the time in boxing, and had a large Mexican Fan Base.

You also had 24/7 with that.

Now I agree that although Floyd was the #1 pfp fighter and had been for some time at the time he beat Baldomir, he wasn't the star he was today.

But 700K ain't that bad for a no name opponent.

With that said of course Mosley Mayweather will do better cuz most mother ****ers wanna see the shark knock big head out.

And really, this is the only mother ****er since...I guess DLH that has a chance.

I was just wondering, how does 700k stack up against other non American main events that have been held in the US?

    Does anyone have numbers?

UH oh. I love how when Mayweather is about to do something impressive, detractors come in and start making excuses before the event even happens. Everybody realizes that Mayweather is about to destroy Pac in PPV numbers, so now you've got people trying to compare this fight with Mayweather's fight against Baldomir in 2006??? Nope, Mayweather is a superstar now, Pac is a superstar now, so no excuses. Pac while he does have drawing power, just isn't the draw that Mayweather is.

Honestly, I think Mayweather will from now on always outsell Pac, unless he just stinks the joint out against Mosley which is definetely a possiblity.

The way Floyd talks before a fight, ****, he's even trickin me into thinkin this mother ****er is actually gonna bring a fight to Shane as opposed to dismantle him on his bike.

But I think most people are buyin this fight just cuz there is a chance that Floyd actually might get knocked out.

If it was Floyd vs Clottey......****, I'm not sure how that would go cuz honestly that's a worse fight to make than Pac vs Clottey.

:huh Why can't people here learn to compare apples with apples?

Mayweather and Pacquiao share one thing in common......they both became huge PPV stars after their fight with the Golden Boy Oscar!

Comparing Pac/Clottey to May/Baldomir numbers is blind to many factors. Same applies to May/JMM and Pac/JMM, as the former took place after the Oscar bout (as well as being accompanied with a 24/7 series), whilst the latter occured before the Oscar bout (and without a 24/7 series). None of these comparisons are fair, so end the discussion please.

Same applies to the upcoming May/Mosley bout. Of course it's going to outsell Pac/Clottey! It possesses 2 modern day greats, both are American, and the fight itself will be equipped with heavy promotional activities (24/7 etc).

And in regards to Pac/Clottey numbers (700,000 and 41,000 at the gates). It's pretty impressive considering none are American, only one half being the attraction and the other being a complete nobody. Considering it was just a sparring session for Pac, I'd say the event was a success.

You have to measure both these guys pre and post Oscar...... Oscar passed the torch to these guys and without him they'd be hard pressed to see 500k buys..... But who cares we ain't gonna see any of it..:good

No it isn't. Mayweather became a much bigger PPV seller after fighting De La Hoya. Same with Pacquiao.

Stupid ass thread. Mayweather was not a mainstream star in November 2006. Not at all.

PPV comparisons don't matter anymore. Anything other than a 50/50 split won't fly.

I wouldn't say Clottey was a nobody? Not a big draw, but a decent opponent?
