You're right, Thompson was too much. Thompson's main losses were to Wladimir. 41-years old isn't that old in today's game.

Exactly Reid was tossed in no doubt, someone else was tossed at Trinidad too soon for a quick buck, there you can blame the managers and the promoters they tossed the dice, they were using the sink or swim theory, on Fernando Vargas, he never was the same after the Trinidad fight.

    Did y'all hear bout this?

The Nevada State Athletic Commission, gave former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., a 9 month suspension for testing positive for marijuana. Chavez has to pay a fine of 30% of his fight purse [$900,000 of $3,000,000] not sure if he has a tax number if not, the taxman will also grab 30% for US taxes, if so then Lil Julio will lay out $1.8 million minus what he pays Freddie 10%, 3%($90k) to Alex Ariza, and at least 5% for his manager.
    Purse: $3,000,000
    - fine 900,000
    - Tax 900,000
    -freddie 300,000
    -Alex Ariza 90,000
    -mgr 40,500
    Total 2,230,500
Lil Julio take home pay $769500
This is just an estimate and approximate numbers, the 3million did sound good though.

    Guys,
On the MMA side T touched on the use of the ultimate fighter series used to bring through talent 'on a six figure contract' as the show states!

What it did help to do was to develop the best talent from places like the UK where there was a market to expand.

Hey presto a few years ago Michael Bisping won & it's fair to say used as the poster boy for UFC brand expansion in the UK & Ireland into Europe.Bisping was actually protected more so than most fighters i have seen under the banner while popularity developed here not hard to work out why $ or in our case £.

We had a recent card over here tickets were available at all prices previously they had sold out fast recession one thing but the card was weak in my view.

Really it depends, both are highly selective, it has been my experience that Top Rank pays better and brings you along at the fighters pace, goldenboy on the other hand brings you to a certain point and then it's sink or swim time. Victor Ortiz found that out first hand. Adrian Broner, had his scare with Ponce DeLeon.
Also Top Rank has way more experience in building and working with great fighters.

Was Mayweather overpaid in his stint with TopRank getting $3 million fighting on regular HBO in non title fights infront of half empty crowds against soft oppenants like Corley and Brusseles, guys like broner will never get any where near that amount.

Interesting, Top rank is the older company and would naturally have more experience.

Golden Boy however has better younger fighters that will build a fighters resume much better than Top Rank can. GBP has Broner, Ortiz, Canelo, Molina, Khan, Garcia, Devon Alexander etc etc.

Top Rank has aging fighters like Pacquiao and Marquez. The younger fighters are Donaire (low weight class), Bradley, Mikey Garcia, Brandon Rios (slurry speech) and thats all i think of.

    ==================================

Also what is your opinion on the conflict between Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions? Is the inability of these companies to work togther the reason amazing fights like Mayweather-Pacquiao and Donaire-Mares haven't been able to be made?

GBP has over 60 fighters on their roster
    TR has about 50 fighters

Both have young up and comers and time will tell if any will make it. About the feud between GBP n TR, it's all smoke and mirrors. Like the GBP grandstand play offering Donaire or TR 3 million. Mares contract with GBP is about to expire, so they made a great media play, "You see GB wants to make this fight happen". One thing GBP forgot to mention, Donaire has a promoter who is quite capable of promoting the fight. Donaire is the name or the "A" side, Mares couldn't headline a major PPV or demand big money. Why should TR, give up their rights, the Pac and Mayweather fight didn't happen cos Mayweather and GB kept making demands, Mayweather many now believe didn't really want to fight Pac.
Look it's really simple the "A" side rules especially if they are attracting big numbers. GBP wants to be the lead promoter and expects TR to sit back while they control the show, using TR fighters that is not going to happen.

Andre Berto, was getting paid very well, when he couldn't fill up the couch in his house. HBO is into trying to build stars, they thought they had something in Berto thats why they overpaid to have an exclusive right to use him, the same thing with Mayweather they were really paying him to use him exclusively. Berto flopped but Mayweather proved to be a cash cow for HBO, It's a toss of the dice really. Broner, will get paid cos he drew big viewer numbers. It's all in the numbers.
