It also depends on the result of the fight, how and why he lost. Recently I told one of my guys to retire. My guy who in 2012 fought a p4p and gave a good account of himself recently fought a guy who is just a journeyman with 13 losses on his record. For my guy it should have been a good tune-up fight instead it was a life and death type of fight and my guy got a gift draw in a fight that the journeyman clearly won. My guy was beat up and had a bad cut, I have since cut my ties with him and told him he should retire. The reason is in five yrs he still has problems fighting the same type of guy, aggressive fighters. My guy has a terrific job with a major company, he cant go to a camp, he is stuck in an area where there are no trainers, or sparring for him, he cuts and he gets hit with everything. I don't want to see my guys hurt.

Last night in the UK Liverpool card the chief support fight was Rocky Fielding v Charles Adamu 168lb Commonwealth title fight.Friday morning Fielding weighed himself was 171lb 3lb over he said last night he has been over before tried to shift the weight but claimed he couldn't get anything off.

The promoter was called and advised Fielding interviewed last night to get some fluid onboard and weigh in.Fielding hit the scales at just under 175lb the LHW limit!Adamu inside 168lb his team oblivious to the fun and games.Fielding lost the title on the scales,Adamu's management team no doubt cut a deal to let the fight go on with the 'opportunity' of winning the vacant belt! The extra money could of come at some risk as the weight difference on the night looked absolutely massive.

Adamu a 36 year old veteran against a man 10 years his junior unbeaten at home 120-108 on all cards the fight frankly awful to watch. It was hard for seasoned boxing fans to watch, for the casual Saturday night viewer new to the sport you would switch it off.

Hey Dempsey we already kind of touched on this before but how would I make connections with match makers and I don't have a fighter yet? I don't want them to think I am wasting their time by touching base with them. What would you suggest?

It is a disgrace, I think their should be some kind of 3 strikes and your out kind of rule, maybe a years suspension? Fair enough sometimes very occasionally a fighter will miss weight and be unable to get it off, be that illness or whatever, but it is now a deliberate tactic and a kopout.

Just call and talk boxing go to fights and meet people, show them that you are interested in learning. Don't be a pest, rather be a presence the more you are seen the better. Visit the gyms and get to know people be friendly not pushy.
On the OC front Saucedo is looking to fight there in the next few months.

It is certainly becoming more and more accepted as well.Being from the UK St.G the difference in weight on the night was disgusting.
Adamu looked not much more than the 168lb limit give or take a few pounds,Fielding I would hazard around 190lb maybe more!
I must of been one of the only people watching hoping it would be a stinker of a fight because as you would back me up,Fielding can bang.Adamu being a wily veteran slipped & spoiled otherwise he could of been really damaged badly.

Murray-Rios springs to mind for a recent beating due to a fighter missing weight, and handing out a hiding to a fighter he was another level to anyway!

For those that have never seen it or forgotten it Dempsey a while back jogged my mind on the Gatti-Gamache 'fight' farcical weigh-in.Watch it if you havn't seen it listen to Gamache in his corner end of the first round. He never fought again after look at the difference in their sizes.
Gatti a beast of a fighter,Gamache so damaged after. It's a fight that can be found on youtube.

M, Not only ended the career of Gamache but the career of Johnny Bos, Johnny and Joey were never the same after that fight. Johnny R.I.P, fought the NY boxing commission on it and it became a nightmare for him. To the end that fight was on his mind. For those who might not know who Johnny Bos was Google his name. I just saw Joey at the Lomenchenko fight and you could see it in him. I knew Joey before Gatti and now its like he is skipping a beat, that fight ruined Joey physically and ruined Johnny emotionally, he passed away last year a bitter guy. We grew up together and stayed in boxing all those years talking boxing until 3-4am most nights, I regret losing contact with Johnny cos it became difficult to talk to him without the bitterness coming to the surface. One of my guys, Jesus Chavez, told me "You have to call Johnny he's not doing well, at first I was leery then I did call and the bitterness was still there just a few months before he passed away it was a sad situation.
Speaking about the weight issue, there is a '35pdr from Texas who is six foot tall and people tell me at the fight he easily is over 150pds cos he's huge. The guy is drilling everybody he just knocked out a tough, durable natural '35pdr who always comes to fight and is a tough nut to crack. I come from the day when weigh in's were the day of the fight. This is really a bad situation that should be closely looked at. HBO always gives us the wt of the fighters the day of the fight, and nobody weighs no where near the wt class that they were in. Take for instance Canelo- Angulo, Canelo, 155 @ weigh in, 170 day of the fight. Angulo, 154 1/2, 174 day of. From Jr middleweights to lightheavyweight. So when you are watching a welter he is really a supermiddleweight. Is it fair? I don't think so, there are natural '35pdrs and then there are jr middlewt's who barely make the '35pd wt limit, it really gives a guy an unfair advantage. Anybody have thoughts on this?
Think about this, the great Sugar Ray Robinson could have been even greater cos he could have been a champ @ 130, 135, 140, 147, 154, and 160, with all the modern training techniques. SRR weighed 1341/2 in his PD. Would it have made SRR better if that was possible? No it wouldn't have, he always fought at his in condition weight.

It is a real issue in boxing but how do we get around it?If a guy makes the stipulated weight then rehydrates to as much as 20lb+ more due to the modern tech of drip use etc unless a good manager negotiates a limit it's open season.

When a guy misses weight the manager, fighter have a real decision to make take the extra $,£ on offer or risk the wrath of the promoter,tv etc by walking away especially if the opponent. If enough green can smooth it over generally it will, otherwise the fighter unless contactually covered won't win any friends and the phone tends to stop ringing because you didn't play ball.

The governing bodies are a mess a universal rehydration limit would be fairer but this by the nature of the game isn't going to happen.Next post reason why it doesn't always suit to cut so much then go in well over your stipulated weight...career longevity.

Three fighters that not loved by a long strech Froch,Hopkins and PBF what do they have in common? They are all walk around near enough to their fighting limit between fights as you could wish I would say as little as 7-10lb over his 168lb limit for Froch.Less so for the freak of nature that is Hopkins and PBF.Look at their ages mid 30's and Mr.H a real throwback near 50 that has helped in their longevity no big weight cut none of this needing to be 'big at the weight' which works for some and not all.

Lifestyle is one thing our Hatton a 140-147lb WC walking round between fights at 190lb+ longevity it isn't going to happen and don't give me his fighting style as a excuse!Brandon Rios serial misser of weight walking around way over where he needs to be due to lifestyle no excuses. The king of this is of course Chavez jr a real guy that has been looked after yes he will fight on with possible longevity but his body will be a mess sooner or later. The yo-yo weight affect catches up at some point still these guys don't realise because they in jr case especially have too many feeding the ego...and the mouth!

A tip of the hat to Keith Thurman's management, they were given the option to wait til a more lucrative fight comes along or stay active and take a lesser opponent for less money they chose to stay active, yes sir the right thing to do.
