I've only read last few pages of the thread but going to make some time tomorrow to go through the whole thing. Appreciate you making the thread.

I'm interested in the matchmaker part in particular. How do they get themselves in to that position? What kind of money does a match maker make at the top level? Are they just employees or are they at owner level? I imagine it to be very stressful seeing as a few wrong choices and your cash cows are finished. Could you describe what being a match maker is like?

If you've already explained these things just ignore this post as I'll go through your thread.

Amazing thread Dempsey, I have been following this thread for a few months, and the input is great, no trolling compared to the other threads haha, what do you guys think of the new amateur rules? Could it help amateurs transition once again to the pros? Maybe even help a pro style to become a option from day one for certain fighters?

 

Dempsey. Any advice on finding sparring partners for my fighters and the best way to do this when you are not starting out with any money?

Do managers pick fighters by looking at their record or do they make the decision while watching the fighter train and fight?

Seems to me like GBP just wanted to sign any US olympian eventhough some of them never really acomplished much. For instance Raushee ****** is a 3 time olympian but inside the ring he looks mediocre.

I too had a few amateur fights but after my second loss i only visited the gym twice in 3 years.
6 months ago when i did visit it, i was asked if i am a fighter because of the way i worked the heavybag. And i looked decent in sparring.

To everyones shock i am 0-2 and both losses were referee stoppages. No one really believed me. Well the heavybag doesnt hit you back :!:

So, is it a combination of both how you look in the gym and in the ring or does one get the benefit of the doubt because of his record?

 

This Thursday night GBP has a card on fox sports the headline fight Ortiz getting 80k to face Kayode 55k unbeaten HW and Ortiz the lions share as the A side of two unbeaten HW interim WBA HW title fight.

Look down the card unbeaten WW prospect Errol Spence 13-0,15k to face Noe Bolanos 24-10-1 is getting 18k how does that work some may ask?

On the way up you would be surprised how often this happens Spence is starting to get a reputation that is growing and a lot of fighters would look to swerve a contest with him.He needs to fight experienced fighters that he can showcase his talents against on a TV card more so when building a career,reputation.

Bolanos I have honestly from memory never seen fight,I read he is a natural light WW lost the last 5 and 3 have been stoppages.Spence can bang and I would be surprised if he doesn't stop Bolanos on recent history.

If that happens Bolanos leaves with a really decent purse,Spence less money but if he performs enhanced reputation and the money he can earn will be rewarded later down the line.The prospect gets paid better later down the line manager,promoter also if the fighter delivers that gents is the correct long term business plan for any good prospect.Is it a balancing act that can go wrong?Of course one punch can change everything but a career in it's infancy should be about long term goals.

I'm a boxer light heavy weight age 27. I reside in Germany. I am looking for a way to develop my boxing carrier. I am currently under contract with a boxing manager, but I don't see anything happening for me. I'm afraid that in the future I will not have the success that would mirror the work I put in the sport. I'm 2(1)-1-0. I am told I have more potential than my record implies. However I haven't been in the ring since 4.26.2014. But I have constantly been in training and ready to fight.

Now my manager gives me two choices. I either step in as stepping stone; my last offer was to fight the 30 year old ex-muay-thai-champion Nieky Holzken with 5(5)-0-0, or fight a lesser opponent for no money at all.

Before I signed the contract he promised me that although I won't be earning big bugs in the beginning stage of my carrier, I will at least be able to earn small money in small fights. He told me that I could fight every week if I wanted to. I told him I was alright with earning little money. I was alright with fighting every month, since I'm well conditioned and eager.

Now when I confront him with the money topic he tells me I am greedy, or I lack the intelligence to see the big picture, that in boxing you must invest before you can earn, contradicting his own promises, that I could at least earn a little money in small fights. He gets very evasive every time I bring it up.

After that last offer I told him:
I want to build up, then step up, then build up, then step up... and I don't care if I get paid a little, as long as I get paid a little! And I will fight the muay-thai-world-champion if it's for a title, but not at this point at my career.

My manager left the country in July and has been there ever since. We email every now and then. In my last email I told him my goal is to make a name for myself. I want to be build up. I want to fight for a title or a vacant title, at some point in the future. It can be German Champion. I don't care, as long there is procces. He was one of the many people who told me I got what it takes to make it big, so he must help me making it big! I developed a plan for my training, I developed a plan for my nutrition, I can't seem to develop a plan for my career. This is not what I had in mind. I need orientation. He responded: I need to be patient. Something may come up.

Now I don't want to blaspheme my manager. There is no TV contract. This is not Sauerland. I don't expect being offered a big money fight with a record of 2(1)-1-0. But I take the sport very seriously. I spend 18 to 30 hours every week training on my own, except when I visit other gyms for sparring. I always dominate in sparring. I don't mean to brag, I'm just saying, I don't see the sense in it all, when I fail to establish myself as a price fighter.

Now my common sense is telling me to stick to building up. But there's a voice in my head that urges me to do it the hard way: Fight any man, no matter the circumstances. To be the best I need to fight the best. I will gain the experience along the way. And that voice is getting louder. I guess that is what it boils down to.

I am highly motivated and I believe I got the skill to achieve something. But I don't know how exactly. I know how to fight. I don't know much about the biz.

Have you got any thoughts and/or advice that could
help me sort out the issues with my manager?
help me navigate my career in the right direction?
