Jamie congrats. On taking up boxing!..such an awesome sport and is one of the best for burning calories..itll get you back in shape VERY fast,...,you shouldnt be feeling hungry..make sure it really is hunger and not eating by habit..if it IS that you are hungry inbetween meals..that just means your not eating enough calories to get you through your next meal,so,..solution #1.. up your calories more from each meal (from healthy food of course).make it easy on yourself-dont starve,no need too -plus,its too dificult when you starve.youre setting yourself up for failure-
Solition #2 ...like Dempsey said-fruit is always a good choice,or a quality protein shake that is fortified with vitamins/minerals,glass of fresh juice(carrots, celery, apples.etc),one cup of natural almonds,nuts,cashews..etc..these are just examples, but i think you got the idea.i prefer solution 1,cus who wants to be eating every 2 hrs!!..its best just to up your calories more at each meal..your mind shouldn't be thinking on eating,on hunger,on snacks..,..it should be thinking on your next workout..your body should be ready to go!..ready for your workout-not ready for more food..if it is-your just not eating enough and your workouts will be counterproductive (youll over train easily)...:bbb

    ...livestrong.com
try these..there are hundred other good ones
Dont get too deep into it cus youll complicate yourself.you want to find out what foods to eat for energy, aprox how many calories you should eat.(so that your not undernourished and feel depleted)...and what foods to avoid(im sure you allready know this one)..remember keep it simple...
...people allready have a good idea of what is healthy and whats not
Subway instead of McDonalds ..water-not soda, fish not pork, salad not French fries, fruit not candy..etc..also find a good site that have delicious recipes for athletes..stay away from thinking that you gotta suffer to reach your health/fitness goals..(like eating bland tastless food!)..make the journey nice and enjoyable..by eating delicious heathy food, not starving, eating moderatly, eating some of the food YOU enjoy.(once in a while)..and by keeping it simple..let me know if more questions..glad to help...:bbb

..(just a comment)....Chaves vs. Johnson....you learn ssoo much by just listening to the commentators watching the fight!!...Emanuel Steward (one of the commentators in this fight)..knew before the fight was over-that this fight shouldve been stopped many rounds back!..all the commentators knew it...except Johnsons corner(& referee)..it should be the other way around..the referee and the corner men should know more than the commentators ,when the fighter has had enough, and be able to catch potential tragedies like this -on time...important thing to take from this for the trainers-not to get 'blinded' by wanting your fighter to win the fight-at any cost...cus a life is way to much to pay,in pursuit of bigger $.....Emmanuel Steward.(RIP)...:good...greatest trainer of all time..(IMO).:bbb

Leavander, RIP, had his brother and his father in the corner, the kid fought on, they were hoping to come on strong at the end. Afterwards when I saw the fight on TV, I saw closeup that Leavander was done, why nobody saw that is beyond me. I received a lot of flack cos I accepted the fight, Chavez was too small, Johnson was too big, how could I do that to Chavez? I knew from seeing Johnson that we had a shot. Chavez was hitting him with everything. It was a tragedy cos it should have been stopped earlier for the sake of the fighter.

.demps...it always amazes me how the commentators 99% of the time are more ' in tune' of what's going on with the fighters inside the ring, more than the actual fighters trainers/cornerman
..they (commentators) see the flaws of the fighter more clearly/accurate...they know if the strategy is working for the fighter or not..they see what the fighter has to change..they see when the fighter has had enough..etc..in Chavez/Johnson fight..they (commentators)were already worried about something seriously bad happening to Johnson..BEFORE the fight was stopped.....sad that trainers didnt see that with all their experience...the great..E.Steward did say....'the corner made a terrible mistake not stepping in sooner'..thats before anybody knew Johnson was seriously hurt.. Johson died couple days after that....in regards to you guys choosing that fight..i think it was smart(we just wish it wouldnt of ended the way it did)..it only took a couple of rounds to see that Chavez was in different league. .
..do you guys(managers)..butt heads Alot with your own team regarding if to take a chance and fight a certain guy or not?...whos got the last word on that decision?..:bbb

The way I do it is to give the guy the pro's and the con's. Lay it out and break it down. I ask the whole team and get their opinion's but the final decision is the fighter's.

hi dempsey thanks for your knowledge in this thread, great stuff, i hope you can extend some help my way. What would you advise a confident fighter (me) looking to get his first pro fight. i am not involved in the local scene so have a fair few questions. should i be speaking to the promotor? the promotors here run gyms and promote as well (you can catch them at the gym pretty easily and ive been to a few of the events. or are you supposed to get a trainer to do the talking for you? What does it usually take to get onto the card? is it sparring and beating a guy at the gym? I've been to gyms a few years back and i never stuck around, made zero contacts- i always train at home (years) how do you convey that you want your first pro fight without coming off as rude or that your a know it all with no record to back you? i look like i could be a youngster but am actually 31. I think most people get there route by sticking with the gym a while making friends and eventually earn there shot. Whats best for me, I will do well in the fights and i want to get this going (been on my mind for years). i want to get a record going. does the small local promoter lock you in with a contract? does it matter if you dont like them haha? or could you just do a few fights? if you get the time to answer these, that would be much appreciated, and maybe a few more. thanks demps.
