Speaking of diamonds in the rough-
Chek out Juan Funez(trainer Ricky Funez nephew) vs. Gallardo..
    Couple questions demps..
First off what a great prospect!(Funez).great maturity for his experience!..i think this kid could be a champ..if he doesnt get derailed for whatever million reasons outthere...
My questions--why would anyone want to put him against another undefeated fighter so early in his career?..and risk a bad mark on his record.-do you think this is a good idea?
.Also, commentators kept saying that Funez is the 'promoters fighter'..basically saying other guy could get robbed.
The promoters are only invovled in putting together a fight right?..
How can that make a dif..in judges cards?...thnx

My questions--why would anyone want to put him against another undefeated fighter so early in his career?..
I don't want to second guess his team, on the surface it looked like a good decision, I am just guessing his team probably thought, he's short(5'4) we are tall(5'10) and he has no pop based on his going the distance in all 3 of his fights. So they probably thought it would look good on their record that they took someone's "0". They felt confident that they had everything in their favors height, power, training and trainers.

and risk a bad mark on his record.-do you think this is a good idea?
They didn't think it was a risk, they thought they had a safe bet, not an easy fight but winnable and it would be a good win.

.Also, commentators kept saying that Funez is the 'promoters fighter'..basically saying other guy could get robbed.
I think they meant that if the fight was close the promoters guy may get the benefit of the doubt.
The promoters are only invovled in putting together a fight right?..
Yes but the local commissions choose the officials
How can that make a dif..in judges cards?...thnx[/quote]
It really doesnt but sometimes it happens

Demps when a fighter goes over the weight limit-is there ALWAYS a fine?
How is it determined how much?..a percentage?..even if theres a fine..what about the other guy-cos now hes at a disadvantage.also
At how many lbs. Over the weight limit, and fight gets canceled?
Finally..i once heard a fighter (that was being acused of being afraid to fight the other guy.)
    Afterwards he
announce to media that he'll fight him-Winner takes all--
Is that legal? If both sides agree.can that be done?(Cos that would makefor such an awesome fight! -if evenly matched.)..
.ever been involved in something like that.? Thnx and sorry for so many questions..😏

Not always and usually it can be settled between camps but not always

Again the camps decide sweat or pay. In a recent fight one fighter decided he wasn't going to lose anymore weight and he had to give up a third of his purse, they gave him a chance to sweat it but he decided not to even try. Another case involved an ex fighter of mine, who was under new management had a fight scheduled, at the weigh in they got their first look at the opponent. The opponent was two pds over, after working up a sweat the opponent weighed only one pd over. My ex fighter's team decided they weren't going to fight that they were going to hold the commission and the promoter to the contracted weight. The promoter trying to save the show cos that was the main event. He offered my ex double his pay which would have made it 16,000. They still refused to fight, the promoter lost his a$$, he had flown in the opponent from Puerto Rico along with his trainer. My ex was within his legal rights but morally he was wrong one pd would not have made any difference. The commission couldn't step in cos my ex made weight the other guy didn't.
Yes it's legal but is it right?

When the fighter had to give up one third of his purse..does that $ go to the other guy?
..wow -thats a shame your ex- fighters
Team didnt take that fight 😡 especially when getting paid double.
...i think under the right circumstances(winner take all) would be fair.
..for example when two (at the top of their game) fighters TRULY hate each other..talking trash..in every oportunity with media .or your fighter being acused by everybody of being afraid to fight the other guy
...of course both teams agreeing to it.trainers..managers.cut man..ect.
Basically the winning team would take double purse..
It would be more of a pride thing..
But it would be such a hit with the media i think.

Recently I was told, "That's the business these days -- the promoters are the managers.". Promoters love weak managers who let them do what they want. A case in point, Fernando "Feroz" Vargas, who turned pro at 19yrs and was done by the time he reached 23yrs. Think about this from Dec '98 to Sept 2002, from his 15th to his 24th fight, he fought Yori Boy Campas, Raul Marquez, Ronald Wright, Ike Quartey, Felix Trinidad, and De La Hoya , All were in their primes none were faded veterans. From the Yori Boy to Oscar's fights his opponents had a combined record of 372-32-5, 263 ko's. After the De La Hoya fight he was done. His managers were Shelley Finkel, Rolando Arellano, and Lou Duva his promoter was Main Events. Main Events was a Duva family enterprise. Leads me to ask who was watching out for Vargas?
In Vargas's case the promoters were the managers and the promoters. promoted fights that they could make money on, thus Vargas fought those fights way to early and suffered the consequences. Co-manager Rolando Arellano was basically happy to be at the dance, he let the powerhouses, Finkel and Duva dictate. And the new Vargas, Omar "Panterita" Figueroa, is basically following the same path being rushed into primetime, he takes way too many punches, I expect he'll be walking on eggs in a few years and be done in what should be his prime. His manager is his father, who had no previous pro experience and now Al Haymon. He's making good money but at what a price. Again a weak manager is allows himself to be manipulated.

Oh wow, my last post was discussing "Promoters are the managers". And here is another example of promoters as managers. I am talking about the Rigondeaux vs Jazza ****ens fight that was to take place this Saturday. Rigo, doesnt have a manager he has two promoters, Roc Nation Sports and Caribe Promotions. I don't have all the facts yet but it seems the fight is off cos of "Visa" problems. A hint it goes deeper then that. A sidenote, about 10yrs ago I was in a training camp with Joel Casamayor, he was complaining about his "boxing" situation. I asked him what did his contract say, he told me, he never saw it and even if he did, he didn't know how to read or write. Rigo might be the same. The Cuban fighters are like the stereotypical country bumpkin not very wise to the big city ways, thus they are taken advantage of as soon as they arrive in the states or anywhere where they can be granted asylum.
