Hi guys. I do boxing about 3.5 months now and my sparring partner about 1 year and half. He has won 6 boxing matches and lost only one (his second match). He is taller about 12 cm and he has much longer arms (i am only 176cm). It is big experience differences but before hollidays i was beating him in sparring. I was getting better and better realy fast but then the hollidays come and I got ill. So i did nothing about 2 weeks (only running and jumping with skipping rope). This week we were sparring every training (we have training 3 times a week) and each training when i was sparring with him I was always just defending. Sometime i throw well landed punch but thats all. Before i was very well counter punching on him and keeping pressure but now i just couldn't. Same with one much older and heavier but still i had no problems with him before hollidays. And the most important thing is that next week i have my second boxing match (i have won my first one almost with ko with guy much taller than me who had already one match before and he won it). What should i do? Is this normal? And sorry for my bad english. I hope you will understand.
1. You don't "win" in sparring. Sparring is putting techniques you've learned into practice against an opponent. 2. Since you're new, he was probably taking it easy on you. Now you're more experienced he's putting more pressure on you. You've been boxing for 3 months vs a guy that has a vast amount more experience than yourself. What did you expect, to dominate the guy in every aspect of boxing after 3 months?
Trust me. He wasn't taking it easy on me. My first sparring was after about 2 weeks so after that time he stoppet taking it easy on me. The older one meaby was but the taller one wasn't. I know him very well and he is sparring still with same pressure and punch power like before those hollidays. I didn't say i have won the sparring. I just said that before hollidays i had no problems with him...
Next thread conjure up a better hypothetical and you might be able to carry the story a bit longer and draw some more interesting responses.
Ok. As I see I am on the bed adress... I really, really thank you for your advices. Serriously. Tell me what should i wrote on comment such as the one about cancer.
This. There's a huge list of variables that affects performance, we couldn't tell you anything specific. Just stop posting on forums and carry on with your training, this will get you nowhere.
