I am going against the grain- the new "super crusierweight" division is to lay a belt on Povetkin

First off all, this is the shittiest idea I have ever heard in boxing, and that is saying something. It..

    1. Garuntees that cruiser can never again be unified, since the cruiser limits are now different weights.
    2. Further denudes the talent pool (and just wait until other organizations follow suit).
    3. Further confuses the history of the heavyweight division.
    4. Is totally unnecessary.

The conspiracy theory going around is that this is to lay another belt on Wilder. That could be. the only thing I don't get is that Wilder has not always been a marketable fighter, and is less so than ever. He has peaked.

Now POVETKIN is a guy who is very marketable in Russia and Germany, who is coming off of his biggest win in years, is WBC interum, and who hsa no chance whatsoever of beating Fury. Due to his interim status, they would not even have to give him a fight. They can award him a title in a boardroom ala Ken Norton.

Again, it could be Wilder. It could be for Usyk. It could be just a scheme for more sanctioning fees.

Povetkin vs Whyte 2 is already signed, and it's for the WBC interim HEAVYWEIGHT championship.
Neither Povetkin as Whyte would likely want to see that changed (money, prestige).
Wilder doesn't have a belt now, and has to play 2nd fiddle when fighting for a HW title next... Wilder for Super Cruiser (aka Wilderweight) it is.

Would be interesting to see if any BIG heavyweights would want to drain off 15-20 pounds to make the limit..

Draining weight is brutal, big positive of HW boxing.

Its a gift for boxing and extra liquidity in the pockets of the governing bodies, but at least they are fueling boxing growth. This is actually very good. More divisions is much better than more "belts" in the same division.

Its better to minimize the use of "super" and stick with Junior, because lots of governing bodies have super belts and these gets confusing. WBC Tigerweight "Super" Champion is a better name for 225 instead of WBC Super Cruiserweight "Super" Champion. Especially the WBC they need to convert to all Junior. SMW remains problematic because it already has its own ATGs (Sven Ottke, Joe Calzaghe and Andre Ward) so we can't just change the name.
