Floyd was the talk of boxing before Pacquiao and still is. If there were no Pacquiao, people would be talking about Floyd MORE, because he would be the only attraction. You would hear more noise about Floyd vs. Martinez I imagine as well.

The exact point I make all the time. Everytime he has an interview, there is 6 threads about the same exact interview and a few more about what he said in the thread (calling Manny leftovers or take the tests t shirt )

This actually isn't an opinion. It's fact. Floyd is more popular than Pac. He has proven as much time and time again. :deal

I would not agree that he is the most popular in the sport. Popular by definition means "well liked". The opposite is true due to his persona. He is the most disliked. That is the way he wants it because that is what generates sales and that is his target. (Money) The Good guy vs Good guy doesn't sell as well.

The purpose of his persona (Bad guy image) is to create controversy and interest in entertainment in-order to generate sales. His model is Muhammad Ali. Good guy vs Bad guy is the only "proven" seller. His timing is always around the biggest boxing event of the year, any other time would be a wasted effort. I would agree however that he attracts the most attention controversial attention for a fighter in the United States. If you had not noticed he limits interviews and media contact in-order to create bigger interest. This is done by design so the media will pay attention to him when the timing is right. Floyd manages to keep himself in the media's eye rather than popular.

It doesn't matter. Floyd was here before Pac and will be here after. Money is a part time boxer for HBO. He's a full time boxer for Money Mayweather. Floyd stays in the gym more than Manny and ODLH put together.

Are you serious!!! Did you just say that popular means well liked, then you are crazy. Ali for along time was dislike more than he was liked. He opposed the war, called white people "*******s, honskeys", he was a loud mouth, and disrepected all of his opponents. He got that loud mouth and disrepecting people from ALI. Was Mike Tyson like by everybody, NO. He is still the most popular heavyweight at all time. The bottom line is he talks crazy to the camera and then get in the ring and kick ass.!

Just don't forget who got both Pac and Floyd where they are. Oscar did both big favors. What were their ppv numbers before Oscar? :deal

Incorrect, in the sense that you are comparing two totally different avenues of media availability. Back then, there was no internet forums, blogs, youtube clips, etc to help fuel fights. Nowadays, WE sell the fight for them through debates and interesting video clips from each camp. If you take away those outlets from BOTH for their entire career, Floyd would be forgotten by now.

"Popular" is a term of endearment. Sort of like the word "FAMOUS". You can be "known" as a figure in a negative or positive light. Hitler wasn't FAMOUS...he was INFAMOUS!

Floyd is "relevant".....popular is what PAC is. Floyd is still relevant simply b/c PAC is still in the game and EVERYONE wants to see Floyd vs PAC. If PAC wasn't fighting and Floyd was inactive....Floyd wouldn't be relevant.

Anytime Floyd is in the news it's something negative or something about him ducking Manny. So Floyd has found a way to keep his name in the press through various situations he's created for himself, but it's a sword that cuts both ways.

Floyd likes attention...however...the attention he's getting isn't the kind of attention he wants.

This a classic textbook example of someone who thinks fame and popularity are the same thing. They're not.
