beating Pacquiao as I was before last night fight.

Let me make this clear this is not a Mayweather bashing thread. In fact far from it. My previous posts should be an indication to all that I am a big fan of Floyds and in the past have been of the opinion that he beats Manny easily. However I saw something in Manny last night which made me reassess my belief. No doubt my opinion will change again if Mayweather beats Mosley convincingly.

For me Manny fought a different fight against Clottey because he knew he would be in it for the long haul, due to no boxer ever stopping him. I felt Manny's ability to both pick up and excute his game plan was excellent. His work rate tonight was outstanding and Clottey just couldn't live with him. Although Clottey did have some success with his gameplan (when he decided to let his hands go), I still believe had he opened up more often, Pacquiao would have gone to town on him and it probably wouldn't have gone the distance.imo.

The doubts remain about the ease in which he gets himself caught and somebody like Mayweather who's speed is far superior to Clottey and has a decent punch himself will no doubt pose problems for Manny..... However, after last night I was left scratching my head wondering how on earth do you deal with a boxer who throws so many punches (apparently he threw 1231 of them), from different angles and is able to keep up a sustained pressure for 12 rounds. Lets not kid ourselves we all know the judges will more often than not go with the boxer with the higher work rate. Therefore, if Mayweather allows Manny to get him to the ropes and relies on just picking Manny off with counter punches he could find himself in problems. For every 10 punches Manny throws, if Mayweather only picks him off with a few himself, he will find it really difficult to outscore Manny. For me this is what could decide the fight as I don't see Manny knocking Mayweather out, I see him outscoring Mayweather based on the fact that he'll throw more punches and keep up the work rate. Whereas Mayweather will try to pick him off and throw less punches. Seriously, how do you outscore an opponent with the style of Manny? Mayweather at some point may have to take the fight to Manny (which contrary to people's opinions) he has the ability to fight on the front foot. Will this play into Manny hands though?

For the first time I think Manny could have the beating of Mayweather. However, as I said before I will probably reassess my belief after Money vs Mosley fight. I am intrigued to know if peoples's opinions on the outcome of the Mayweather - Manny fight has changed after the display Manny put on last night?

Not really. Clottey for me was always a tough durable fighter and thats it. No more than that.

i don't look into this fight when regarding floyd mayweather. at the end of the day if you're going to stand there just defending then of course pacquiao will throw countless of punches hurting his opponent, but floyd is a counter puncher, a defensive genious, and a complete different sort of fighter compared to pacquiao. pacquiao has trouble with counter punchers, not fighters coming forward in straight lines like clottey, which is why i regarded this an easy fight for pacquiao.

We all know floyd does not = clottey, but we know that pacquiao can still throw a FW amount of punches with amazing power and speed.
Pressure like that will crush a pot shotter life floyd.

Look what castillo did with less than 800 punches.
He literally gave floyd his only legit loss.

Mayweather is an entirely different proposition to Clottey. Clottey was a plodding punch bag who fought scared. Mayweather actually has lateral movement, intelligent defence where he can counter effectively, and he can see punches coming. Marquez barely landed a glove on him and Mayweather punished him for 12 rounds, carrying him for most of the fight.

Pacquiao, amazing though he is, is open to right hands and still gets tagged often enough. I think Mayweather would school him to be honest.

Hopefully, for Pac, Mayweather will come to their fight with a torn rotator cuff like he did in his fight with Castillo.

Last night for me never changed any real opinion for me on what pac can and cannot do. He was amazing don't get me wrong but i already knew he was an amazing fighter.

Yes he overwhelmed clottey with his workrate and angles but the task of doing that against mayweather is far far more difficult. Clottey was stationary almost all of the time last night, kept his guard high and never once clinched pac when he was exploding off. His defensive style while good for blocking punches was never going to be easy for him to counter someone that moves in and out as brilliantly as pacquiao can.

Now mayweather is a totally different proposition, he won't be a stationary target, he will be moving around and has footwork and footspeed that can match pacquaio, also when pacquaio is coming lunging in quickly instead of covering up mayweather will be using his similar speed and big reach advantage to be countering pac when he is initiating his combinations, not trying to do so when he has finished and moving away. Last night proved to me that pacquaio is still very open to the straight right hand, clottey landed ofter, mayweather straight right is one of the quickest and accurate ever.

The fight between them is so intriguing, so many different weapons brought to the table by both, its got to happen, either could win but i will now not make a prediction till post mayweather v mosley, PBF last fight against was a glorified sparring session, this fight will show if floyd is still as good as he was pre his retirement

1231 punches at 146 lbs convinced me of something I was suspect about.
I thought pacquiao couldn't do that at WW. I thought that he left his endless stream of punches at SFW.

The main difference between Clottey and Mayweather is movement. Floyd simply won't be there to hit. This will of course impact upon Pac's workrate. We have seen Hopkins do it to numerous fighters with a known high workrates.

Pac's success will basically come down to how quick he is and if he can consistantly cut off the ring when Floyd runs. If he can get Mayweather on the ropes he can win it. If he is unable to keep Floyd there, we will see Mayweather win on points.

I've said it forever; Floyd doesn't have the punch output, nor the power to beat Manny. You gotta make Manny respect you to beat him. He's too good right now.

I disagree , I think Manny can beat Floyd in the middle of the ring or on the ropes. Floyd fights southpaws off the front foot. Judah outboxed him in the middle of the ring. And he stood right there in front of Corley for the whole 12 rounds.. got stunned a bunch of times and wobbled too.

He's a lot more vulnerable against southpaws.
