My short opinion - Loma can't be P4P 1 if you're taking into account resume, longevity etc. - but if you're judging it solely on who you think is the best fighter, and who would beat everyone else if they were all the same size (the original definition), then I'd put him #1. A special talent.

He hasn't the best resume in the sport yet. But in terms of talent, skills, boxing IQ etc he is a level above anyone else in boxing

There are some guys that are right in the mix, but he would definitely be near or at the top by this metric (what I too originally understood the term to mean) with me as well.

It is interesting to me to see that this definition no longer seems to be the accepted one despite how suggestive of it the term itself is. When did it change and why? Or is my perception faulty somehow? As I'm typing this, am thinking that perhaps it is more difficult to quantify and to get the most marketing out of it and so P4P has changed to include such things as resume and longevity so as to more efficiently create grist for the commentary mill? Am I making any sense?

    Skill wise number 1 P4P....

    Resume wise he's in the top 5 P4P .....

    As P4P is subjective he's my number 1 P4P.

I see it like this just imagine their respective skills being what they are but both fighters the same weight and size, just imagine the domination Lomachenko would put in against Andre Ward.

Good post! His resume is not bad as well, most fighters first 15 fights are glitter with complete no hopers and some still fight no hopers after more than 20 fights.
Who took on Salido in his second fight, lost and took on undefeated Gary Russell Jr. I can't name a fighter fight an undefeated fighter coming off a lost.
If he would have lost the Russell fight, he would have spotted a record if 1-2-0. That would have killed all the buzz and most probably buried his professional career. Loma deserves all the hype and accolade he is getting at present.

What hype?! If not for Lawrence Cole Lomachenko would have knocked Salido out, Salido knows it too, that's why Salido turned down $750,000 to fight Lomachenko on ESPN.........................Lomachenko almost knocked Salido out in the last round, good thing Cole was protecting him. Watch the video!

Why are people so HIGH on a Loma vs Rigo fight? Don't get me wrong I would have loved to see this fight but not at 130lbs, I would have loved it at a catchweight instead. Around 124lbs. Rigo is too small and I believe if he wanted to, he can make 118lbs and fight there. At 130lbs Loma is too big. It's like asking Canelo to fight Ward at 175lbs when we can see that Canelo will be at MW for a couple of years and won't grow two divisions even if he tried. Or asking Loma to fight at 140lbs when he has stated that his limit is 135lbs and we can visually see that even at 135lbs MIGHT be too much for him.

What will be people's excuse if Loma and Rigo fight and Loma wins? Loma too big and picking on smaller men? Should have fought at a catchweight? Should have fought Garcia at 135lbs or Crawford at 140lbs instead of Rigo?

I agree. I think Mikey can go straight to WW right now and have no problem. He has a big frame.

Oh I see, you need further explanation. How you looked = how dominant you were statistically, winning rounds based on the 10 points must system, winning minutes and exchanges, level of measurable dominance and ability to finish the fight off. Surely Loma's stats are great lately, vs. opposition limited either by skill or style, still, very good wins. Then his stats look pretty bad vs. an advanced pro style. A weighed average in P4P raking definitely puts more emphasis on one's more recent fights, which is why I don't exclude one with a loss some fights back. But the loss itself, how one looked in the loss, how and technically why he lost, how many rounds and exchanges he lost has a say in one's P4P position. How could not this be the most objective criteria?

There is no sense of a subjective P4P ranking based on who one might beat when boxing is all about upsets. I'm pretty sure you could've put Loma on the list before he faced Salido who was trashed by Mikey. Tell me, then what happened?

    See?

My favorite one is 'Floyd vs. Lomachenko at 130 is a 50-50 fight'

Last time I checked Floyd wasn't manhandled by no 12-loss pro in a lower weight with half a decade less experience as a boxer.

We'll see. Ill become a believer when hes in with a good, big strong physical pressure fighter and hes able to absorb and overcome the pressure. I hope you're right though.
