Having followed this sport for nearly 50 years. i am convinced in my mind that Thomas Hearns was the greatest fighter ever. Hearns loss to Hagler was due to him breaking his famous right-hand in the opening round. Hagler wanted nothing to do with a rematch. Hearns loss to Ray Leonard was down to exhaustion. Hearns loss to Barkley was down to carelessness. Excuses a side i feel Thomas Hearns achievements, quality of opposition, skill level and stature make him the Greatest fighter ever. H2H Thomas Hearns beats everyone, from Pacquiao, Mayweather, GGG, Ward, Toney, Pryor, Leonard Thomas Hearns beats them all.

I don't think the greatest fighting machine in history would count exhaustion and carelessness among his attributes. After all, more than any other fight, a fighter is the sum of his parts. That said, Hearns was pretty sensational.

Oh dear. Lie down on the gurney next to Redrooster.

Delusions due to Hearns and Norris obsessions respectively need addressing.

Kovalev was awesome at 147 and 154 for sure. Peak Hearns would have no chance against him in those divisions.

Ward and Toney were also far more impressive at 147 and 154, it isn't even close.

Great fighter but his chin was not the best and he was porous on his left side.

You've been following the sport for 50 years and you can only name fighters from the last 20 years that Hearns can beat?

Not at all. i would strongly fancy Hearns to take care of any fighter in boxing history at 147 or 154. If Hearns can outbox peak Sugar Ray Leonard by besting the first 10rds of their title fight, then he can outbox any fighter. If Hearns can level Roberto Duran for the full count, then he can stretch out any fighter in history. At 160 & 167 Hearns would still be strongly fancied and favored to beat all comers. At 175 Hearns easily out-boxed a prime Virgil "Quick Silver" Hill, which is no mean feat as Hill made 20 World Title defences. There is far more substance to my claim than bluff.

I'm one of the biggest Tommy fans around but strongly fancy him to take care of any fighter in history? Nut uh and certainly not at 175, where against the truly greats he'd be found wanting against some of them, where his obvious physical gifts were somewhat neutralized. However, he was a special fighter no doubt and I'm one of the those who wanted a Hagler rematch and also feel that H2H at WW and SW/JM he could beat anyone. Only SRL, SRR and Mike McCallum would I give a strong chance against Tommy at those weights. And when you think that SRR is lauded by many as the best P4P fighter in history that makes Tommy pretty special.

He would never have defeated Marvin Hagler. People need to get over it.
