Tell any 200lb fighter to strap 50lbs to their body and see how the perform.
The weight issue is extremely important...you don't see that??

The pro Solis could have been is pretty much in the same category as Jack Johnson or George Chuvalo or anybody else you'd put in a fantasy match-up. He doesn't exist today, and therefore any hypothetical match-up is a fantasy match.

The pro Solis has become is just cannon fodder for any decent heavyweight with any combination of greater than average size, higher than average workrate, and sturdier than average chin (really any 2 of those 3...let alone all three like VK).

His only chance is Vitali aging overnight and looking absolutely terrible...or having a nasty strain of influenza and climbing through the ropes anyway.

Pro Solis could have been KO1 pro Solis has become.

Great pictures! I know that Solis was in supreme shape back then but I still feel that he can do it because he is still fast ( somehow ) and has good stamina and his punching power is greater now. Man, Solis was a beast in those days, they really have to keep in shape in Cuba...

But there are also other considerable factors. In those pics, Solis was in his early 20's and every person gains 15 to 20 pounds naturally when they reach their 30's. Plus, is not like Solis gained all this weight in 6 months as he has been fighting at above 250 since he started his pro career over 4 years ago. So, he is used to weighing that now... Can you see that ??? :good

Well, at least you stand behind your guy, I'll give you credit for that. :good

I see that...however Solis wasn't that young, he was 24-years old when he won the gold medal at 201lbs. Last fight out, Solis was 260 at age 30.
59 pounds heavier. That's not normal weight gain due to age, it's fat.

Look at Vitali as an example, since Vitali was 24 (he's now 39), he's gained about 20 pounds (and it's not fat).

I'm a Klitschko fan, so it would make sense for me to pump Solis up, go on and on about what a great fighter he is, what a tough fight for Vitali this will be, etc... But honestly, I just don't see it, not at Solis' current weight.

    Thanks. :good

What I tried to say is that even at 24 a fighter is still young. When fighters get near 30 they gain weight inevitably. But Solis ballooned up to 255lbs in his pro debut, which I don't know what caused that ( by purpose or by just lacking off ). I think it was the timeframe that it took since he defected to his first pro fight, ( he was probably between 7-8 months without training nor fighting ) and starving himself in the Cuban amateur program for years ... hmmm ... what do you think will happen ? LET'S EAT !!!

I can tell you one thing for sure and I am beginning to be 100% sure about this theory, " the amateur level is more competitive and keeps fighters in way better shape ". When the big bucks start coming in and fighters have months in between fight many of them don't seem to have the motivation nor desire anymore...

Specially the Cuban amateurs ... :good

I-A, Saludos ! I can guarantee you that if Solis goes back to the ultra strict Cuban boxing schools he will lose 50 pounds fast! Either he does or he is out of the team, they don't play around over there...

If he was training in Miami, ( which I think he went back to Germany which is way better for him ), I will pay him a visit myself and give him some good advices !!! I will invite him to come jog with me for 1 hour every day... :yep

I can agree with this theory.

Hmmm... So Solis is training in Germany. That is better than the distractions Miami has to offer.

    I had a dream!

I would like to get up just before the day of the fight to get to know that Solis is on the 245-250 kg range, loosing on the process 20-25 kgs of fat from the 260 he was in his last fight, and all coming from his waist.

I saw Solis delivering a masterpiece of Cuban boxing style. I saw Vitali embarrassed and impatient failing badly to find the target. His psychological magic gone with the wind. Not willing to apply his usual pressure, because he was afraid of Solis’ strength. I saw the face of Vitali slapped back and forth in that fight. I enjoyed the monster uppercuts from Solis just like the one Lewis delivered to Vitali in their fights.
I can visualize it, what a beautiful dream it was ….J

    :rofl:rofl

Even in lbs, I still think that would be too heavy (see the Long fight in the other thread).
