I sometimes pick the old time bjj fighters to defeat some of today's mma crop in the matches with no stand-ups, and without time limits. I would pick Fedor to defeat Couture with little hesitation in such a match. Prime for prime, now for now, whenever you want the fight to take place. In today's world of standing fighters up when there is a lack of action, of letting fighters sometimes escape difficult positions by making it to the end of a round, of fighter getting to come out on foot after breaks between rounds; a fight between Fedor and Couture may be difficult from the general consensus' best heavyweight in the world. Fedor did twice defeat Mark Coleman, a world class wrestler, by submission. I don't have a problem picking him over Couture, in fact I do pick Fedor over Couture in fantasy match-ups. I do give Couture a better chance than many other fighters, though. Couture is a world class Greco-Roman wrestler. Couture may have a way of controlling the upper body in ways that Fedor has not dealt with. Fedor may be a more powerful striker, but that will not necessarilly help him in a clinch. If Couture is control the clinch, ocassionally take Fedor down and maintain top control without being submitted; Couture could make it difficult for Fedor to win a decision.
I see what you're saying - but I have to admit that the luster of the Fedor/Couture match was knocked off by Brock Lesnar. I think Randy's chance to fight Fedor and be competitive may have passed during his self imposed exile from the ring.
Couture has never been good enough in stand-up to keep up with Fedor. With every attempt by Couture to clinch he was going to go down.
sorry this fight dosnt and to me never did have any intregue. i think now fedor quickly runs through randy. in brock hurt him standing fedor would **** his **** up badly and or sub him on the ground fedor has to many ways to win and i only see randy winning by cut war fedor
You may be interested but its time has past. Dana White ruined it and has kept his grip on the MMA business .
